97 LT1 motor in a 94 Z28

I was wanting to make sure i wont have any issues before doing so....i am pickin up a wrecked 97 Trans am and im gonna pull the motor and trans and install it in my 94 z28 Camaro. I know the opti pigtail harness will have to change. Im gonna use the 94's computer as well. Will I have to make any other changes for it to work? I heard the 97's had a crank position sensor? will that effect anything?
thanks in advance.

Your 94 harness won't have any wiring to connect the crank sensor or the EVAP vacuum monitoring switch on the RH side of the intake (you could always take it off and use your 1994 EVAP plumbing). The 94 PCM won't know those things are there and won't care, because it does not expect to see them. You will also need to use your 94 coil and ICM. The 96 coil has a different connector. Also make sure you use your 94 knock sensor in the block.

What trans? If it is an auto, the 94 PCM won't have a program to control the TCC PWM solenoid.

so it looks like my biggest issue is with the trans. it is auto. what would you recommend I do about that issue?

You will need a 95 auto tune and you will also need another wire that goes to the transmission connector that the 94 harness does not have (for the TCC PWM). If you also get the engine harness for your new engine/trans, that would take care of that. There will be a few other wires that you will have to match up to your 94 car, though. Specifics can be found in the "Harness Connector Faces" info on my website. Use the tabs at the bottom of the page to navigate.

why not avoid all the complications by using the harness and PCM from the 97?

well because the trans am hit a tractor and i believe tore part of the harness up in the wreck...not totally positive. i do know the fuse panel on the drivers side is trashed.

The new complication would be the OBD-2 PCM. Whole new set of issues. And then there would be a few mismatches with the body connectors.
