96Z engine/trans into 94Z

Kind of a newbie question. I'm looking at replacing or rebuilding the transmission in my daughter's 94Z. I have an opportunity to buy a 58K mile engine and trans out of a 96Z. Would this be the best route considering the guy wants $900 obo? What kind of changes would I need to be aware of electronically? Any alterations to the PCM?

Thanks,
Greg

I copied this from another discussion area since this seemed more appropriate.

you'll use the optispark harness from the newer engine..

use the knock sensor from the 94 engine using the 94 computer.. 94 and 96 knock sensors are different.

the engine and trans would probably be your better bet if the current engine and trans has high mileage.

guessing its an auto trans..rebuilding a 4l60e isnt cheap.. i have heard prices anywhere from $500 to $1600

i bought a 62k mile lt1 engine 4 months ago for $300, which was dirt cheap..

Thank you sir. That's the kind of info I was looking for. I forgot to mention (after rereading the post for the 96Z engine/trans) that included was the computer and harness too. I'm hoping it hasn't already been sold because I haven't heard back from the guy yet.

Thanks again,

Greg

The 96 4L60E has a pulse width modulated TC lockup, the 94 4L60E has a switched lockup. I don't think the 94 PCM will control the 96 4L60E correctly.
