96 z28 lt1 tuner

THis is all new to me. Here Goes. I just bought a 96 z28 convertible.
I installed a K&N induction and it has dual flowthru exhaust system. I would like to increase the HP. with either a chip or a system programer. what are the pros and cons of each and what do you suggest? I haven't had much luck
searching for this hardware. Thank-you in advance.

Best Regards

very little gains in a chip or programmer. Better to get a dynotune. If dynotune isnt feesable then a mail order or email tune is the next best especially if you can give tuner feedback with datalogs.

I've learned either go with pcmforless or madz28 tunes. Pcmforless is a mail order and madz28 can build and email your tune for you to flash to your car. Nice thing is it allows you to customize it and you can also provide datalogs for adjustment/correction

Re: 96 z28 lt1 tuner

Just to clarify - there is no "removable" chip in your 1996 PCM. It has to be flash programmed. The "chips" you see on ebay are all scams, usually consisting of a 10-cent resistor in a small plastic case that you wire into your IAT sensor or TPS sensor. They do absolutely nothing. The Hypertech Power Programmer has been shown to lose HP on even a stock setup, unless you also get the 160*F t'stat and use the programmer to reprogram the fan on/off temps.

As noted above, mail order is your best bet.

How about just changing the rocker arms to 1.6 and changing the valve springs to a better quality?

Lt1s run pig rich factory, so the only way to cure this problem is a dyno tune.
If its an auto it would be worth taking it to a good lt1 tuner or a tuner that cares and have it dyno tuned and street tuned.
