96 z28 LT1 No Start

First of all thanks for checking in maybe you guys can help me.

i bought this car and drove it for maybe a month and it died when i was driving and it did start back up.. ended up replacing the opti spark. the distributer and the rotor and cap the whole shabang.. anyways it was running great up till a couple days ago when i fill up w. fuel and it started sputtering real bad and couldnt hardly drive it. Thought maybe some water in the fuel cause i had washed it that day, even the gas comp.

anyways so i put some Heet in it maybe thinking that was the prob but negative.

so i let it sit for a couple hours that night and it runs great till it got warmed up then it started sputtering again the next day i was driving it and it was sputtering when i very first put in in gear then it stopped.. drove about two miles and it dies and now will not start.

a couple codes came up when it died came up as the crankshaft position sensor so i changed that and still nothing..

any ideas??

also would only sputter while in gear would never do it in neutral..

thank you

James

Have you checked the fuel pressure?

what were the codes? When you replaced the opti did you use a OEM unit?

yes ive checked the fuel pressure regulator and seems to have plenty fuel pressure.

p0355 and p0356 i do believe is what they were one was the malfunction of the crankshaft position and the other was range in performance or something like that.

and ive checked the sparkplugs and everything and to the coil also

and i got a borg warner from oriellys supposed to have a lifetime warranty on it

Both of those codes are incorrect. IIRC, the code for the CPS is P0336. And the CPS wouldn't cause those symptoms. It only detects misfires. Read the codes again and post them up.

I've used some Borg Warner parts in the past and they worked. Don't know about their opti.

I know you don't want to hear this, but I think that is the code for the opti.

Did you end up figuring out what was wrong? Getting the same code in a 1996 Vette that has a 6 month old aftermarket Opti put in by a shop from previous owner. The car is dying randomly... I took the water pump off and checked the opti connections and the coil wire was loose and burnt... I replaced it and it helped a lot but still died on me once today... although no where near as often as it did yesterday before I replaced the wire... seems to happen when it's heat soaked.

From the GM tech site code lists for the LT1:

P1371 = Distributor Ignition System - Low Resolution Pulse Loss.

When that code sets, it means the PCM no longer has the information required to time the ignition and injectors, so it shuts down the fuel system. Sounds like the optical cam position module in the Opti is failing when it gets hot.

Not an unusual problem with an aftermarket Opti replacement.

When you have a code on an LT1, use Shobox's LT1 specific code list, not some generic list. There are tabs at the bottom for OBD-II:
