96 LT1 sounds like it has a cam, 93 LT1 doesnt?

I took both exhausts off my car today and I just got a new 96 Lt1 formula, I turn the formula on (after taking off stock exhaust) just running after the ypipe and it sounds amazing has a lope to it and makes that pop corn noise of a cam, my 93 car is loud but doesnt have that same pop corn noise/lope. Are the cam profiels that different from 93 - 96? Im almost positive this car doesnt have a cam in it.

It could be anything from tune to the fact that the 96 is an M6 and has a higher idle...

Are the cats stock on it, or are there even cats on it? And a higher idle would definetely make it sound like it had less of a cam than a lower idle would.

There are cats on it, it idels at around 900 rpm when starting it cold, just like hte 93 car. Would a dual cat setup really make that much of a difference? Its not any huge lope but its definitly different from the other car. I dont know why someone would just put a cam in it, everything else was stock, except the air box.

96 also has dual cats vs single on the 93. however if the car sounds cammed, it probably is. Alot of people will de-mod their cars prior to selling them, and most people arent going to go that far cause chances are it wont get noticed.

Hows the 96 throw down? I alway thought people were underdogging the LT1's saying they were slow and ****, and I always thought mine felt fast as ****.. I did noticed that it had a slightly choppy idle, but thought it was b/c of my exhaust.. But I went down and dominated a 96z28 m6 with 4:10's from a dig. IDK if my car is just a freak, or if it was cammed.... Sux having a used car.

LT1s have do have a fairly *rough* idle when stock, however rough is different from choppy. If your engine is chopping and pulls hard on top, its almost undoubtedly got a cam. Some LT1s are stronger than others... mine has hung with 2 LS1s, and I know it isnt cammed cause im pretty familiar with the factory exhaust note. however my car, as well as others here might have something else like roller rockers done to it to make it run so strong.

Could be anything from burnt wires, or miss, to a bad tune (not computer tune), or anything else...

Im familiar w/ the sound of an open header lt1, I think the car may just have a slight miss. But It does seems to pull damn hard.

1993-1995 Y-body, F-body: 202/207 0.450/0.460 lift 116 LSA
1996 Y-body, 1996-1997 F-body: 200/207 0.447/0.459 lift 117 LSA

they should sound about the same... the lower idleing car should sound like it has a bigger cam...
