96 LT1 Prob. please help me diagnose.
Well one day it rained and my 388 ci LT1 was sitting in about 5 in. of water at a light and then after it started to lag a little and backfire. Then after a day of sitting, the car sometimes starts but now is to the point where it starts and will idle fine but when I drive it it is fine for awhile if I keep the rpm's low. Before if i'd go over 2k it would just die instantly. Now when I drive it will do the same start to bog out then die on me and then I push start it while it's rolling and starts up but then it will die again when I get near 2k so I'm thinking I ruined the opti? Would that be correct? I'm gonna go with the Accel for $200.00 then I will prob go with a 255 gph in tank fuel pump and some 50# injectors before I hop on the dyno. Do you guys think it's the opti? It is also throwing a code, probably a misfire code huh? Thanks for the help.
Re: 96 LT1 Prob. please help me diagnose.
Why guess at the codes? Get it scanned (some shops do it for free) and see what the code is. A misfire will generally cause a flashing SES light if its serious enough.
Re: 96 LT1 Prob. please help me diagnose.
After I first bought my Z I went thru a small puddle in the middle of a left turn and the car stalled and wouldn't start. I went back to it a couple hours later and it was fine. I know that there was some kind of recall on a vacuum part that they relocate to a better spot. Maybe this has something to do with it.
Re: 96 LT1 Prob. please help me diagnose.
Well my opti is out and I am installing a new OPTI from Accel. I will also be installing fuel pump, fuel injectors, comp r lifters, and getting it dynotuned so it will run right. The sound on the motor was ping. I am also replacing the MAF and o2 sensor for the codes. Opti is good to me, just not too great with water. Thinking of doing something to it before I put it in to make sure water can't get in there at all.
