96' Engine trouble
96' Z28 67,000miles.
Not really sure how to describe this, but I will do the best I can. I was on cruise control doing 75 when the car started to sputter in and out of speed (65-75 or so). I then turned off cruise control and it was still doing the same thing. Going from 65 back to 75 and jumping around. It was like a jerking motion as the speed slipped up and down.
I stopped at a gas station, gave it oil (quart low) and turned around, not sure what was wrong. It ran fine for awhile, then suddenly it began to do the same thing again and this time my RPM gauge dropped to zero, but I was still doing 75. It ran fine again for a little while and then I attempted to turn a corner and the engine turned off. Took me about five minutes to get it to go again and when I did it sounded like paper was caught in a fan, (best way I can describe the noise) it ran for a bit then died.
When I got it home, (with the help of a friend and his truck, did not make it even close driving it) it won't even start. When I go and try to start it up, I get this lound grinding/squealling noise and it won't even turn over. (I don't even want to attempt with that noise) All my fluids are full, hoses, belts look fine from what I can see.
I had a battery "checker" that I used in my lighter socket and before start up it read 12.0v and after I turned the power of the car on, it read 11.4v. Is it possible that my battery is causing the aray of problems?
My check engine light did turn on and stays on, along with my check gauges light.
Any suggestions or ideas would be most helpful. Thanks.
