95 Trans Am INFO
95 Trans Am INFO
Currently I have a 95 TA with the LT1. Does anyone know what the stock HP is rated at and gearing in the rear end. I also have a "TRANSMISSION PERFORM" button and would like to know what it does! Looking to upgrade exhaust and intake. Currently have a 84 with a 383 stroker and a 88 with a 305 which is a discrace! If you would like to see I can post pics of all. So anyways I have kind of a passion for the F-body and am just looking for some info. Thanks,
Rick

Re: 95 Trans Am INFO
If I'm not mistaken 95 was the split year that could have had either dual cats or single cats. If your car has 2 cats it was rated at 285 hp. If it has one cat it was rated at 275 hp. The majority of TA's and Z28's had 3.23 gear ration in the automatics, or 3.42 in a manual (thats it yours has the 150 mph speedometer). You can also tell the gear ratio from the RPO codes (located in the glove box):
GU2 - Axle, Rear 2.73 Ratio
GU4 - Axle, Rear 3.08 Ratio
GU5 - Axle, Rear 3.23 Ratio
GU6 - Axle, Rear 3.42 Ratio
The Performance Button was added to increase the speed or firmness of the shifting in automatic cars. Personally I don't think it really does all that much. But some people believe it does wonders.
As far as exhaust goes. Get a CAI (cold air induction). Either K&N or Moroso. Both are cheap and work wicked well. Then go with a good set of long tube headers or mid length if emissions is a concern for you and a cat back (GMMG or Corsa IMO). That should get ya started, and hopefully this helps some.

Re: 95 Trans Am INFO
The only 95's that had dual cats were the A4 cars with CA emissions. All others have a single cat. And all 95's were rated at 275HP no matter how may cats they had.

Like said above 2 cats were for CA cars, and BHP ratings were all the same at 275... A4 cars had 2.73's stock and 3.23's with an upgraded performance package (and that ahad nothing to do with the speedo, but who gets a performance upgrade without upgrading tire's). The speedo upgrade was dependant on the tire selection the vehicle was made with. low speed rated tires had a 110 MPH speedo and all high rated came with the 155 MPH speedo. Like my car had the upgraded tires but not the performance package and I have the 155 MPH speedo... *** EDIT*** and if you read the literature from that year you see the tire upgrade is what mentions the speedo change...
Oh yeah to the comments about the button not doing much. There are actually different tables in the computer that change shift points, tcc lockup, and other things when that button is pushed, and it all depends on if you computer is stock or not if you feel the difference, a lot of tuners tune then to be the same when you get the computer tuned...

Re: 95 Trans Am INFO
found this online too:
EDIT found this too this is actually what I was looking for:
Q: What's the deal with the speed limiter (115 vs. 155 speedo)?
A: In 93 and 94, you got a 115 mph speedo *without* the QLC tires (245/50ZR16
GS-C tires). With QLC, you got 155 mph speedo. In 95, you got a 115 mph
speedo *only* if you get the stock 235/55R16 tires. With QLC (GS-C) or QFZ
(RS-A) 245/50ZR16 tires, you got the 155 speedo.
As for convertibles, in 94 (there were no 93 convertibles) 115 of the 168
Formula convertibles made had the QLC (Z-rated tires) which also included
the 155 speedo. All 463 Trans Am GT convertibles had the 155 speedo (since
QLC was standard). There were also an estimated 691 Z28 convertibles with
the QLC and the 155 speedo, but it is not definate as to how many Z28
convertibles rolled off with out the Z-rated tires (and thus, the 115
speedo). In 95, if you got QLC or QFZ with a convertible, you got the
155 speedo (just like the coupes).

The base tires were the S-rated Eagle GA. All cars with these tires included a 105 mph speed governor. The Coupe only came with the GA, but the Z28 could be ordered with the Eagle GS-C (QLC) Z-rated high performance tire, which did away with the speed limiter entirely, and also included the 155 mph speedometer.
