Question Packages similar to the GMPP LT4 Hot Cam Kit?

I tried searching and came up with nothing...

Ive been looking into the LT4 Hot Cam kit from GM and I've heard alot of pros and cons for it and after thinking about, I'd like to do something else. I was wondering if I could put together a better package for a similar price?? And I need a little help because engine building isnt my strength.

So far heres the plan for the engine: (any critiques or suggestion would be great)

• ARP rod bolts
• Stock Crank
• Stock Rods
• ARP main studs
• ARP head bolts
• .030 oversized Forged Pistons (Brand??)
• Fel-Pro Gaskets
• New Water Pump
• Mellings Timing Set
• Blue Print Block?
• Hot Cam Kit or other cam/setup
• Port heads and intake?
• Un-Vented Opti with MSD Cap
• Windage Tray??
• Key Crankshaft Hub
• Computer Tune from Madz28.com
• Other?

Thanks in advance!

If you're going to go with ported heads, looking into a Lloyd Elliot setup, cam included for a decent price.

If you keep the stock pan, and will be using a standard volume pump, keep the stock windage and pick up a stud set that comes with the longer windage studs.

Stock crank is fine, but if you're going to go with forged pistons, spend the extra $200-250 and pick up some forged I-beam rods. Plan to spend about $2500 for this including machine work (block machine work, rotating assembly balancing, and assembly)

Why are you sticking with the unvented opti? You would be better served to convert to a vented opti since you'll have your valvetrain apart anyways and you plan to spend $ on a WP. Go with a double roller, electric water pump (you can use the stock housing), and a vented opti.

I'm running the Mahle PowerPak .030 pistons, very nice setup.. forged.

Keyed hub is not really necessary.

The LE Setup is a little out of my High School Budget right now but i've looked into them before.
The reason im keeping the un-vented is because I picked up a 3k mile GM Opti with the MSD cap so It is now vented. The motor wont put out more than 375hp so Im hoping the melling chain will stand up.

Does any one have any advice on a comperable hot cam kit??
