94 z28 tranny problems, car running sluggish

i need some help in figuring out what the problem might be with my tranny. just purchased the car and it wasnt running correctly, after many checks it appeared that the catalytic was the problem. now the engine revs and sounds much better than before. went to drive it around the block for the first time and it ran sluggish . it had no power., I shifted from drive to reverse it didnt hook then i went from park to reverse and it hooked. it feels as if the torque converter is constantly on. Any advise , thanks

Anything done to the car that you know? Did you replace the cat? Any idea whats been done as far as maintenance? If you have no idea, I would do a full tune up like fuel filter, air filter, oil change, spark plugs and check the plug wires for age. Have you checked the tranny fluid to make sure it full and not burnt smelling? What all do you know about the car, like if it was parked for long period of time and how many miles.

the previous owner had replaced fuel filter, fuel pump, spark plugs, water pump, opti cover and rotor, opti was replaced three years ago. when i purchased the car it didnt run. it sounded like the MAS was bad, but after several chks the cat seemed to be the problem. currently the cat is completely gutted out. the car idles now and revs with no problem, big difference. when i took it out yesterday around the block, it felt sluggish as if its on a higher gear. i gunned it one time and it responded like it should for a few seconds. the tranny fluid looked good. i chked it today, the engine was cold though. i have some codes to chk will ask neighbor for scanner. the car has 114,000 miles. i was thinking of replacing filter and fluid on tranny. do you think its in limp mode or a bad solenoid. is there a fuse for the voltage for the tranny. thanks

Good chance the codes will give the answer and I would do that first before trying anything else. Tranny fluid and filter is a good idea. Have you checked the maf sensor to make sure it clean? There is special cleaner and I have seen it make the car go from sluggish to perfect with a few sprays.

the MAF sensor was replaced by the previous owner when they were troubleshooting the initial problem of the car sputtering with no power at all. i think i resolved that problem by gutting the cat. the engine revs normal and it sounds much better. i believe the car is sluggish from the tranny. it feels as if the tranny is shot where the rpm does match your speed as if it is slipping. also the feeling is like taking off in the wrong gear when you are driving stick shift. i will wait for the scanner. do you know about the voltage going to tranny and possible solenoid? thanks for your help

i drove the car today and realized, like you stated, that the reason for the car being sluggish is not the tranny but the engine. i will check it with the scanner tomorrow to see if it flags any sensors. the motor sounds like it is missing on the low end. thanks for your time and input. your input is greatly appreciated, thanks
