94' trans problem....not downshifting right

i hope someone has an idea about what might be wrong.everything was fine until this past weekend now when i downshift its like its not in gear.my rpm's dont go up but if i give it gas the rev will go up until it matches the trany and then starts pulling again.this is hard to explain.it still upshifts fine, just as hard as it ever did.its a 94' w\auto.....any thoughts ????
was wondering if its a trany problem or a converter problem ???

Clutch drums are probably slipping. Time for a new trans preferably or a rebuild, watch out though cause a good rebuild can cost almost as much as a new trans and a lot of shops cut corners.

Are you manually downshifting it? If so you have burned out your overrun clutches.....that is why it is a bad idea to downshift your automatic.

Sounds like rebuild time

Guy who built my tranny said it was no problem downshifting my auto after his rebuild.
We shall see if the junk he built will last in my junk.
