Re: 396 Dynoed @ 467RWHP need Z06 MAF???

I just got the Z06 MAF on and to the dyno last weekend. I guess there was a need for more air, because I made 28 rwhp and 33 rwtq more with this setup and a my PCM reprogramed. Thanks for all the input.
So you saw this increase with just installing the Z06 MAF and tuning the MAF tables, or was this with the Z06 MAF and dyno tuning? Im just wondering cause I have a 396 with a healthy HR cam and AFR 210's and will be going for a dyno tune in the spring. If the Z06 MAF produces this type of gain, I would install one before that time. I am expecting to make around 450RWHP.

First, I got everything I needed to install the MAF from Kevin at ramchargers.com and I got the actual MAF off ebay. Second, yes my car does run to 7500 rpms+ and no the heads are not to big for a 396 with a solid roller cam and properly setup. Also, the facrory PCM will work just fine to 7500 rpm if properly programmed. We spent two full days on the dyno and the increase hp was from the MAF and dyno tuning (adjust valve lash, knock retard, ect.)... however, the engine had just been tuned on the dyno 3 weeks before by MTI. This time I had a friend that knows his **** help me tune the car.

Anyone else want to try to shoot me some tables, I will give it another try. Mine has a screen and I was using a RAISS intake basically straight ram air all underhood.

Well I need some specifics on a few things, did the stock PCM go to 7500 + RPM on the stock tach or a "good" tach? And if so how did you get it to go there as we are all told the stock PCM has a ceiling of 7200 RPM? And how did you get the factory knock sensor to work at all on a solid roller setup? Mine wouldnt even work right on a shorty header hydraulic roller, it was pulling out 4* of timing just from the noise that setup made, I tried everything to de-sensitize it. Ended up bypassing it, how did you get it to work properly? And last are you running an Opti?

Thanks
David

Jeff did you run the new motor with the stock MAF before switching to the Z06 MAF? What kind of gains did you get with the Z06? What does Ed think of running the Z06 MAF?

Re: 396 Dynoed @ 467RWHP need Z06 MAF???

Yours are the tables that most recently did not work for me.

EW tested the ZO6 MAFs right after they came out and found the calibration to be a mess varying as much as 10% between the few he bought to test, at leas that is what was reported to the b-body forum at the time. Bryan and Ion have both spoken up about it being a PITA. To me that is the big three tuners all giving it the thumbs down. Now if going to a full custom in person tune then a tuner can tune for a screwy MAF, but for email stuff and even just a quick dyno tune you want to use something with known good calibration.

*Shrugs* I have no idea why, I've been running that table for 3 years with 128+/-3 BLMs...

If the factory GM unit is +/- 10% then I wonder what the factory LT1 units are?
