355 owners and builders
355 owners and builders
I was looking into a 355 with stock crank but good rods and pistons. I keep reading of 355 owners going 11's, i know there is a lot of things that could make the difference but.... What are your high HP 355 doing to get the power.
I was thinking stock crank, good pistons and rods, my heads flow 270is at .550 already, i'm sure my cam wouldn't be any good to reuse, 30# injectors 58mm TB, longtubes, all the bolt ons, but what are the tricks to do to get the #'s that would impress?
Also a 150-200 shot would be nice to include to ensure the #'s i want, but trying to do some research to build a decent 355 that would fit the budget and try to reuse the parts i have already. looking to get high 10's with nitrous

Re: 355 owners and builders
Sounds like your off to a good start. There are plently of h/c car going 11's with the proper setup. Of course its going to alot easier to go that number with an auto but if your a m6 its a little bit harder. Your 60-foot is going to have alot to do with that it.
Re: 355 owners and builders
i went to the track for the first time in about 3 years, i know i need practice but i was pulling low 1.8 60' time last week. i know i could do better if i play with it more, half my trouble is shofting into 3rd gear and my MHP times are not as high as i would like it around 106-109mph, so there is some more tweaking i need to do but i'm tired of searching for the problem and all, so i have a friend who graduated from S.A.M. and works for Indy cyclinder head, so i'm going to talk to him about what can be done, but i want to get as much info as i can befre talking with him.
Re: 355 owners and builders
I was knocking on the door to 11's with a hotcam and mildly worked stock heads. Full weight, stock suspension and wheels, through a cutout. Little bits hear and there and I could have done it. You should have been able to run 11's with the hp #'s you had from before, with an automatic anyways. Just need a big stall (~3600 rpm).
Edit: I just read you have a M6. Get a 12 bolt/9", a good clutch, a cage, and launch off of the rev limiter.

Re: 355 owners and builders
Sounds like you have a good start. Make sure to use good rod bolts, main bolts etc. Like stated above your et is gonna depend on how well you can launch the car. Save up for a rear end, your gonna need it and its what I think one of the best mods for a 6 speed that wants good track times.
I have all the mods you listed above + more. My current heads flow better than that but my old LT1 ones averaged 246 across the ports and made 428rwhp through a 9" rear end. I'm also using the stock crank and put down 476rwhp with the new heads/intake before my last few "updates".
Good luck with the build up.

well i do have a 9" with 4.33 gears and i do need to practice on the launches, so.... for now i need to loo into why my MHP times are a little low. I know i need to hit 110-115 to get the time i would like. I'm getting frustrated on searching for the weak points, it's killing me not having all the parts working together to make the nummbers i want.
have the hurst shifter, just don't know if i'm getting too excited or what, but my last run last week i shifted slow and it felt like i still went into 5th so i backed out made sure i was in 3rd and hit the gas and the car shut down on me, until i got to the end of the track and it finally started back up.
I was launching around 3000-3500 rpms to get the 1.8 times

Re: 355 owners and builders
if you have a 9" throw some slicks on it and drop the hammer on the launch. ET is all about the 60'. If your cautous on your shifting it could be a major part of your et/mph being down. Practice alot and get a shifter your comfortable with and you should be able to slam the gears...honestly..I had the hurst for a while and missed more gears than ever. I put in a pro 5.0 and havent' missshifted once siince then. I would take the pro 5.0 or the ripper over it anyday now(ive tried them all). The more time you spend between gears the more time your car is just coasting and not accelerating.

Re: 355 owners and builders
i do have some et streets and i will practice practice [ractice and hope things get better (on my part). But ... thanks for the help and if there is any advise you can throw my why about bulding a motor like your please send that also
Re: 355 owners and builders
Not a whole lot to my motor. A good set of heads, eagle rods, ross pistons, stock crank, solid roller cam. Its all the little tweaks here and there and a good matched setup is how I'm getting the times I do. Beleive me..I use everything this little low budget motor can put out.
