Obviously with the 4.71's in the back the car isn't very streetable, but with stock gears how streetable would the car be with that cam in there?

Its not a daily drive if thats what your asking. The 4.71s aren't bad when you run around on 28" street tires.. The car drives fine on the street. Even with a stock size tire it wouldn't be bad. You got 6 gears you know. Stock gears would be a pain in the ***. But I consider stock gears a pain in the *** on a stock car.

Just drive the car through some water again, sure you can get a new motor why hasnt the wifes stock motor in her Formula met the same fate, nice forged little 347 wouldnt be so bad for a small shot.

What's your race weight on that car? Your numbers are astonishing. My setup isn't that far different than yours and I'm not even in the same state let alone the same ballpark. Granted, I'm running a hyd roller cam, but I am 12 to 1 w/ a 355 and the whole nine yards. When I see results like yours, it just confirms the fact that I'm still missing about 40HP and 20 or 30 ft-lb of torque. Still searching for it

Well Steve you are almost 100rwhp shy of what Tim puts to the wheels so you are definately not in the same ballpark. It probably has alot to do with your heads, cam and tuning. My car weighs 3,500lbs.,also has a 355" LT1, 11.1 comp., ported LT1 heads with an old CC306 hydraulic cam ran 7.19@97mph in the 1/8th, 11.24@120mph 1/4mi. with the stock rear and 3.42's in it. I am not trying to rag on you it just takes more power and the properly setup car to run the number. Believe my car wasn't setup to run well N/A either when it ran 11.20's but it made good overall power. It will run alot faster with some 3.70's and leaving off the T-brake with my new rearend. Should be close to Tim's old times surely not his new times with 470+rwhp.Later Clint

Very nice numbers Tim. I think that was a good call to go to the shaft mounted rockers as well. I have cam lift envy. .690" is serious. You keep pushing the numbers further and further up. All that means is that I just have to keep raising my expectations for my motor now.

In your case, you went to a larger rocker ratio and DFI since upgrading to the shaft mounts. I would be curious if the car would pick up HP just changing to the shaft mount from the stud mount on some of these high lift, high rpm solid roller motors.

I'm just curious if I was to do something similar to my engine and use the car on the street. I go to the track for fun, but I like to drive my car on the street as well.

I'd like over 400rwhp and run 11's so I'm trying to figure out what the best things to do to my car would be. Your setup is making awesome power. I don't want crazy lope or anything, and I will need to have some sort of gas mileage as well.

Do you think that you'd make a lot more power if you switch from a stock crank to a 383 or a 396 since you've already bored out the engine?

Race weight is around 3300 lbs. I hope to get tha down some. To be honest power is in the heads. Its take a good combination but without good heads the rest isn't going to work the way they should. There are some place you don't skimp on..that is one of em.

Clint...I see we think alike on where the power is.

Whats up ron..how is yours coming. I haven't heard anything about it in a while. I agree that the lift is getting up there..lol. But everytime I throw more cam at this motor it picks up. Its really prevelant since the new heads. I had the dfi on the car before the shaft mounts. With no tuning change but going from stud mount 1.52s to shaft mount 1.6s I picked up 22 rwhp. How much was due to the ratio change and how much I got by going to shaft mount I will never know. We tuned some more hp out of it but my motor has always been weird. ONce it gets to the hp its going to make no matter what you do it will not change..no matter what fine tunning you do to the computer. I just end up running as little timing as I can without loosing power and pull some fuel out and call it good. I try to keep pushing this setup....I got to give you stroker guys wtih aftermarket heads some competiton you know.

For a dialy I would go with something alittle milder than what I have. 400 hp should be easy with the right heads. my exact setup may make alittle more hp if stroked...but if I went stroker I wouldn't keep much of what I'm using now....and prolly would tweek my heads some more.

Re: 355, GM LT4 heads, solid roller. 476.04 rwhp.

Tim,
The project is coming along from what I'm told. It's supposed to be in the car within a week and running. We'll see. This time around we went with lunati crank and rods, diamond pistons and a lot of polydyn coatings, anti-friction, and heat rejection. They seem to think this should be worth some power. Granted I won't be spinning past what the stock computer limits me to, but we'll see how it does. I'm not sold on the cam yet as I don't think it is anything special, ie. not custom, just a grind that anyone can buy from Comp, but I'll give it a chance and see how it does. It's slightly bigger, 252/262 @ .050. I'm trying something a little different on the valvetrain this time. I had the comp promags on the car before, but I got a set of Crower offset stud mount rockers for a really good deal that have the correct offset for the relocated intake valve on the AFR220's. We'll see how they work. I would like to run a shaft setup, but as you know, I'm into this project for WAY too much money. I'll keep you posted.

Get some numbers on that beast!

I hear ya ron. I think we all have more than we should in these cars. I'm glad you went with some offset rockers..I didnt' like that old setup at all. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
