are 308 gears on a 94 a4 z28 good or bad? im curious. what gears are good for acceleration and what are good for say highway use or just cruising. i read about 3.23s and 3.73s but i have no clue what this really all means. thanks :-D

 

You will get better gas mileage with 2.73s or 3.23s.

3.73s and 4.10s will accelerate much quicker then the 2.73s and 3.23s.

I don't know about you but I didn't buy a Z28 to get good gas mileage so go with the 3.73s on an A4 or 4.10s for a M6.

With 2.73's you'll get better gas milage than 3.08, but not 3.23.

Well seeing as you have an automaic, the whole point of a higher ratio is to make the car's axle turn easier (from the fact that the car will run at higher rpm), which makes the car quicker. The lower you go in numbers (ratio) the better the gas milage gets, but also the worse your acceleration will get. 3.08 will be close to 2.73 on gas milage, but 3.42 will probably be your best bet for all around milage and acceleration. 3.73 or 4.1 is obviously for accelerating and not so much milage.

Why do you feel your Z28 has 3.08 gears? The only F-Bodys that got 3.08 gears were the V6's. A4 Z28's came with 2.73's or 3.23's.
