302 questions

I have a 327 block I want to use a 283 crank and make a 302 but I want to use fuel injection. will the heads from a LT1 or Ls1 fit on my block?

I read about the engine and fell in love.
I want fuel injection for turbocharging reasons.

thanks

No.....LT1 heads use reverse flow cooling.

But, you can use gen 1 (1955-1985) heads with an lt1 intake. Hmmmmmmm, interesting. Hope this helps, Prorac1

Yes, LT4 heads are reverse flow cooling also.
The only differences between the LT1 & LT4 heads are: valve size, port size and the LT4's having raised runners

Since LT1 blocks are cast 327 on the block, couldnt you still use a 283 crank and make a 302 LT1/LT4?

lt1's are not cast 327 they are 350. The 327 number on the block has no refrence to being a 327 block.

Wink

What I mean is, that you can put a 3" 283 crank in an LT1 block, with the 4" bore and it will give you a 302. Just as if you did the same with a regular SBC 327 block. And the LT1 block is a reverse cooled 327 "stroked" to 350, just as the SBC 350's were with a 3.48" crank.

327 and 350 both are 4inch bore (along w/ 302)

only difference is the stroke

if i remember right, the 327's came with both small journal and big journal cranks. i don't know if they made a big journal 283 so your 327 block may need to be a small journal block in order to use the small journal 283 crank. correct me if i'm wrong.

You can make a 302 using the LT1 block and the L99 (265 ci) crank.

Thats what I was trying to say, that the bore on the blocks were the same, just the stroke is different.

As far as the smaller journal cranks, there are a few places that make spacers I believe for using a small journal crank in a big journal block. I have heard the same as Gump said also about using the similar L99 crank from caprices to make a 302.
