3.4l to 5.7l swap
3.4l to 5.7l swap
hey everyone i'm new to this site but have a major question. i recently purchased a 94 z-28...the problem is the guy who had it before me blew up the stock LT1..so rather than replace it with another he swapped it out for a 3.4L v6. i want a v8 in it real bad...has anyone ever done a swap like this?? if so, what will i need as far as wiring, etc, & how much time/money/work is involved in something like this??
I don't understand the reasoning behind him doing such a swap, but this gives you a basic idea of what you need: http://www.tacreationsusa.com/3_4_3_8_v6_to_lt1.htm It can be a time consuming job, but if you can find all of your parts used, it should be an inexpensive swap.
hey thanks alot 2000gtp...that helped alot..any other suggestions for the swap? yea i dont understand his reasoning either...but i only paid $500 for the car & its in incredible shape so i cant complain too much lol
Take a look at this sticky, it has alot of posts, but some of them are pretty informative: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150164 You might also try the "search" function as well, this topic pops up here and there so there should be some other good threads to read through. Good luck.
Wtf...your normal person blows a 3.4 to put a 5.7 in it. I'm going through a swap now. Since you have the LT1 rear end you save your self a little $$$. The tranny bolt pattern will be different, your fuel sender is a different P/N in he 3.4L. (he had a 5.7 so i think you will be okay) And the front springs are a little stiffer on a 5.7 (Due to the weight differences of the two blocks) with a good mechanical sense, you can get a block and tranny set up for 500-1000 bucks on ebay. Or hit your local scrap yard. The only other issue is swapping the motor mounts, and hooking up you PCM/Wire harness. No doubt about it you'll be no less then $1500 done right. (stock) Any qusetions feel fre to shoot'um at me. I wil be posting the start/ teardown/ install. and dyno/track times when she is done (March'ish)
