Just for the record... my factory-installed opti is still kickin after 235,000 miles.

I blew a water pump gasket last week, so I'm pulling the pump to replace the $0.40 gasket.

While I'm in there I think I'll take a look around for loose intake bolts.

Summit Electric water pump came in the mail today... this'll be real fun. Wish me luck... if I can get through this without killing the opti I think I got a sot at going for the record.

I clock 20 to 25 thousand miles a year... I THINK IT CAN, I THINK IT CAN, I THINK IT CAN!!!!!

It'll be fine. I don't understand how so many people mess theirs up like that.

I've had 3 water pumps go bad and after the opti dried out, everything was fine!

Interesting. I usually use simple green then a pressure washer. It started after but drove funny, and wouldn't idle under like 1500. I shut it off, and went to restart a few minutes later and it wouldn't fire. Datamaster told me the TPS was reading near WOT, which explains why it wouldn't start: clear flood mode. Also explains the high idle. So I replaced the OEM TPS and all was fine. Then some months later I decided to wash it again. Killed the replacement TPS! I am beginning to become suspicious of simple green. I have had numerous electrical gremlins pop up just after simple greening my 9C1 as well.

Havoline 20W-50
this would explain your head gasket problem. get your heads resurfaced before bolting them back on! i have a pair of LT1 heads here that needed .015" taken off each end to make them flat again. they were warped like a banana from overheating.

I read where you stated the engine overheated a few times, but did you do oil changes religiously?

I want to know how you used your magical elixure!? How many miles were on the engine when you started useing your 20w, did you use 20w consistantly, was it synthetic and how many miles you drive a day?

Not when I first got the car. First oil change was 11,000 miles and the next one was 8,000 miles! After that, though, I started doing it pretty much on time, or before if the pressure started dropping alot.

I bought the car with 132,000 on it. Stock down to the plugs and wires. Used 20W50 from the get go. Don't know why, I just did! Not synthetic.

I'd be interested in seeing what those bores measure out to especially since you can still see a good amount of cross hatch.

As long as there were no serious scratches, you could probably just throw some new pistons on, deck the block and heads a wee bit, some rings and bearings and just go.

naaaaaaaaaaa, we could not let it get by that easy with out making a 355 or something...
