It has varied from brand to brand, but none of the red stuff.
I never changed it as a scheduled change....there was always a problem or it had leaked out....or something.

Heck yea! Dont frame it, no ebay, dont take it apart and dont clean it. Just put that bad boy right back on there. How awesome would that be, that nasty old opti on an all blinged out brand new LTI! Send us some pictures of THAT when its done and run it as long as it will go! Now I'd copy and SAVE that picture on my own computer...

Ive seen similiar mileage on a stock LT1. My dad's old taxi was a buick roadmaster. When he sold it, it had almost 500,000 km's on the stock motor and I believe it is someone's daily driver now after it was retired from active duty. It didnt have the original opti, though.. that is what is truly impressive about this guy's car!!!!

If you car has an oil cooler, which I beleive all LT1's do up till 1996. DO NOT PUT IT BACK ON. When I bought my car it had recently had the water pump replaced and I guess it had been very hot. I took the car to the track after having it for a few months and spun a rod bearing. When we took the motor apart there was "baked" oil all throughout the engine. My dad and I poured parts washer through the top of the oil cooler and it just seaped out the bottom. I almost just bolted up the oil cooler without taking it apart, which would have caused another engine failure. Baked oil clogs up the fins of the cooling core which anti-freeze runs through. In order to delete the oil cooler you just switch the studs to bolts, and the oil filter will spin on inplace of the oil cooler. Also, you re-route the cooling hose that used to go to the oil cooler. I used my brother's '96 as a guide.

I haven't made up my mind yet on that.

It cleans up the engine bay... and it's not really needed.. I'm not sure exactly why GM stopped putting it on Lt1's but most likely it was to cut cost... I stand by my recommendation to leave it off.
