24X system and egr
24X system and egr
I am going to change over to the efi connection 24x ignition system, but I need to pass CA emissions. So being that I can no longer run my egr system with the lsx pcm, could I take the egr off, install a block off plate, then bolt the egr up, block off the pipe on the back of the intake and bolt the pipe back up? This will give the appearance that the egr is hooked up even though it is blocked off. My question is will this change the way the car runs? And will it pass a sniffer test like this? I know of some guys who delete the egr system to run long tubes, do these cars pass the sniffer test?
Re: 24X system and egr
Does the LS1 PCM have a provision for EGR operation?
To disable the system, you would simply insert a thin piece of sheet metal between the flange for the corrugated tube riser pipe and the intake manifold. No need to do anything with the EGR valve. OR you could simply plug the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the EGR valve.
Disabling EGR may result in high NOx readings.
I'm sort of surprised you could pass emissions when they find an LS1 PCM in the car instead of the LT1 unit. Will the LS1 PCM accept the VIN for your car?

Re: 24X system and egr
My questions would be, do they plug into the ALDL during inspection and is the vehicle run on a dyno like some states?
If it's run on a dyno (or at least a set of rollers) where the engine comes up off of idle, you're screwed as Fred pointed out. You will fail the sniffer test.
As far as the ALDL connection, that is up in the air as to whether it will get ya or not.
