230/236 with 1.7's?

i have a 230/236 112lsa installed at the moment, still on stock rockers due to money issues.

anyhow i'm wondering if i should go with the scorpion 1.7's or a pro mag 1.6

has anyone dyno'ed this cam or a similiar cam with 1.7's? does it hurt or help?

also, will there be a problem with the vavle geometry with stock length pushrods.

thanks
mike

What 230/236 cam?

You gotta make sure the springs and the rest of the system work well.... you ever see those LS1 boys collapse lifters and bend pushrods? They have 1.7's too.

I have a friend getting ready to do the same thing with his 230/236 XE Comp Cams. He is useing a 3/8" ARP stud, CC pushrods, 918 springs. It is all within the specs of the springs etc, but what about the studs? Are they strong enough for stability? Or should you go to the 7/16" studs for strength, event hough ARP are stronger than factory.

Funny how I posted about the HotCam with these.
But, you should see a gain, as the Hot Cam with a 350LT1 and the 1.7's made 14rwhp with a 6 speed car, corrected.

also, has anyone had problem trashing 1.7's due to bad geometry?

You might want to change those valve springs. they are very stiff single springs. I went through a few, as they were originally put on my motor by MorePerformance via CNC. They had problems over at Katech motors with them also. I changed over to 918s and have been trouble free. And the 918s can handle more lift, I beleive.

Re: 230/236 with 1.7's?

I have the same cam (230/236 .545"int .555"exh 112LSA w/ 1.6s) and your lift will go up w/ the new rr's. you can calculate this by (.545"/1.6)*1.7 so your new intake lift is .579 and exhaust is .590

You need new springs for that (im pretty sure, I wouldn't use 1.7s w/ my excomponent 612 springs) and I am almost positive the 918 comp springs will work for that, but I would ask comp.

About half way down are the specs.
