2 weird things happening to my 95 ta

Ok, I have a 1995 Trans Am with 47k miles on it. It is a 6 speed, and the only mods I have are CAI, TB bypass, and !CAGS.

Here are the two problems I have had with it.

I seem to have a sort of backfire at real high RPM. Here is how I found out. One day after I got back to the house I thought I would just hear it rev up, so I revved it, up twice , the 2nd time putting the RPMs right on the yellow, and I hear this pop sound, that sounds like kind of an explosion going through a pipe, like the exhaust manifold or my CAI.

Next day I am running it hard in first, RPMs up kinda high and POP same thing. Yesterday I was in 2nd (so I know I am not excellerating faster then the TACH can keep up, and before I get to the end of the yellow, POP! Now I had my car on a dyno 4 months ago and the tach was at the red, but no pop. I didnt even hit the rev limiter. And this doesnt sound like a rev limiter as I have heard people hit theres . This just sounds bad

The other problem, is if I am in like 3rd or 4th and going between 1500- 2000 RPM I seem to have this kind of bucking going on. Thing is, it only happens if I am at about 25% throttle. I give it more and it goes away. It kind of feels like picking up slack in the driveline, but I dont think that is it. And I know it didnt do that before.

Just hoping some of you guys might have had experiece with this or know what it could be.

Thanks

Jason

I would say check your plugs, plug wires and Ignition COil.

I know I had to replace the #1 plug after I broke it putting it back in after I decided to look at it . Is that a backfire I ma hearing then at high RPM? Is this effecting my low rpm bucking? (im just full of question arent I? )

Everyone's gonna say Opti....which it may be, but i had the same low end bucking under low throttle as you. I changed the plugs and wires and its fine now. Funny thing too, because the last wire i pulled off was the coil wire and it was all corroded, so i'm almost positive it was just that. Good luck...

I say ignition coil to, it seems to be related with high rpm problems. Is it a stock coil or a MSD?

It is the stock coil. That high RPM backfire sound sounded real bad yesterday, like I blew the engine or a head gasket

Thanks for the help. Tonight I will go make sure the coil wire is on good.

Typically high end missing is related to bad ignition coil and low end missing is related to bad opti.

WOuld the low RPM missing be a missing or opti problem if it cleard up when I gave it a little more gas? This morning I was in first gear in the same rpm range and I didnt have a problem. Could it be like too much slack in the driveline too ??
