Hmm....now that I think about it a little more, I don't think my car has RPO NB6. Years and years ago, I called a local dealership and read them my VIN, and they said it was a Federal emissions car. However, I know for sure it was shipped from the factory to a California dealer, with intent to be used and sold in California.

As mentioned, I've run into several people who bought there '95s brand new in California. All the A4s are dual cats and all the M6s are single cat.

Hence, I postulate there were '95s sold in California that actually did not have California emissions So I stand corrected Of course, the easy solution would be to look in the glovebox to find out, but unfortunately, my car isn't parked at my house anymore.

Yeah, I guess it will take a little more research to say for sure. It could be that California was having a hard time getting M6 cars and was importing them from other states. Who knows? Or you may be onto something, after all. I tried verifying with the parts book. While it did indicate that A4 cars had the dual cats, it did not conclusively indicate that M6 cars did not.

This isn't as big a mystery as it seems. ALL 1995 M6 cars are "50-state" certified. They did NOT need "CA emissions" to be sold in CA. All A4 1995 cars were built "49-state" certified, and required "CA emissions" to be sold in CA. I've posted this numerous times, and I've know it since I lived in CA in 1995, and studied the differences between my 94 and the 95's I found on the dealer lots.

There should be at least ONE code in there...
Not necessarily. The SES (and even faults that do not light the SES) will store a DTC code in the PCM. The PCM will "clear" the code if the car experiences a pre-defined number of "drive cycles" without the same fault recurring.

one thought just came to me fellas, the most likely reason the 95 LT1 cars had a OBD II connector, even though the cars were OBD I, and the V6 cars were OBD II with the correct connector

simple
drum roll please
SAME DASH HARNESS

since the OBD I standard was not required until 96, GM probably wanted to save money, plus use up all the LT1 OBD I parts(new engine assm.=assembled with the non crank sensor front covers, harnesses, ext.) plus the extra costs of switching production methods(mainly parts) that they waited until forced

Only the 3.8V6 was OBD-II in 1995 (mid year release). The 3.4 was OBD-I.
