12 second yuppie killer car

Hi mesage board I am pretty new posting but had a few questions? I have a 1996 z28 that I just picked up it has some milage on it which is no biggie since I plan on blowing this baby up soon and doing a crazy rebuild. For all thr pros on this board I was wondering the what the best and cheapest meathod of putting this thing in the 12 second quarter mile range would be without nitrous our a S/C would be? I plan on redoing the motor over the winter properly along with a nice vortech system and the works. I just want to blow the *** cars away along with the yuppie bmw mercedes etc here in chicago. If you can help please let me know . Thanks for your time.

Concentrate on mods that you can carry over when you really build it later on. Long tube headers, catback, intake, 1.6 roller rockers, etc. Those mods probably won't put you in the 12's but you'll notice an improvement, and all can be kept when you get serious about modding it.

If you really want 12's for cheap buy a used nitrous kit (even thought you said you didn't want it).

You shouldn't have a problem beating most of the rice burners (With the possible exception of the new Evos) and certainly all of the 3 series bmw's without an M logo. That also goes for all but the most powerful of the mercedes line-up. As for getting it into the 12's, Longtube headers and a good cat-back are a must (+40hp or so), cold air intake helps a little, maybe some 3.73 gears in the rear end. Maybe you want to go another way but thats just my opinion.

m3's arent too fast i beat one pretty bad i thought they were mid thirteen second cars. and as far as beating most imports it should be easy. the only ones that are fast are fully built swapped motors or boost'd swapped motors. just make sure the ones you race dont go, pshhh or sound more like an indy car then a fart can. lt1's are pretty fast compared to alot of other cars stock to stock. it takes alot for a 17 or 18 second import to even catch up to if not surpase a 14 second stock car.

I think w/ just a nice cam(along w/all the goodies), some LTs, CAI, a good exhaust system or a cut-out, and some Drag Radials you should be there
I had a best of 12.8@107 w/ my 10 bolt, cam and headers
What part of Chi-Town are u from? Maybe I can point you in the right direction or go the track to smoke some stangs
But whatever you do good luck in your project!!

have a ? for ya on the n20...

ok well i went to the track and im using a 150 wet kit, from compucar.

well i only dropped .7 tenths in the 1/4 without pulling timing or no tune...

and for some reason, when i had the 100 shot in, it felt a lot faster than the 150 does now...

what could be my problem?

Re: 12 second yuppie killer car

Thanks guys for the help so far. I am located out here in Elgin Il. If you have any good tuners or info it would be appreciated I havent been racing in some time most of the guys I know of are long gone. I figure a 12 second ride would be sufficiant to smoke allot of the cars out here or at least give em a run for the money and have some fun.

Defenetly do drag radials. I dropped .4 off my 1/4 ET by just switching to some Nittos.

Re: 12 second yuppie killer car

will a cam alone yield performance gains on stock heads? cams are cheap, cheap is good

also, my bone-*** stock '94 Z28(with 192,000 miles) whooped an 04/05 BMW Z4(you know, the little roadsters?). i pulled on him from the line. the owner was cool, gave me a thumbs up and i returned the gesture. its very satisfying beating a $45,000+ car

LT headers, CAI, if auto 3.73's or manual 4.10's, try to get a good cam, port your heads and intake, get some subframe connectors aswell. Beef up suspension too that is often overlooked
