i agree.

this is my route.........the non-suspension/all power route

lloyd Heads................. $700
Combo cam package... $600
Longtubes................... $500
Y-pipe w/ cutout.......... $250
Intake .........................$100 used
Nittos in rear................$300
Misc (gaskets etc).........$100
NX wet kit....................$600

thats about $3200....assuming you have an M6.....put the other 300 towards a clutch, you will need it.

should net you low 12/high 11 on motor........add a bit of spray and easy LOW 11s.

i dont need all the suspension work cause i dont plan on running slicks or launching hard..........i race more from a roll.

I agree with Jordon on this one. Ken95Z28 and Frank95Z are two that I can think of that did it with stock heads. Ken had a hotcam and Frank had the Crane 2033 cam. Both were autos with stalls and all boltons. Ken did it with the 10 bolt on ETs.

I say what you need is:
full exhaust
CAI
stall or some clutch
gears
a cam and valvetrain
tires
tune
SFC for insurance
and some weight loss.

That should be enough. Do a search, there are threads that have asked if 11s on stock heads was possible. Here is a thread that I started a while ago.

It can happen for $3500 but it will be hard N/a. I did it last year but you guys are not adding up the little stuff that costs and any labor. Can all of you guys install gears, rebuild engines and or transmissions? I doubt it but with the help of my oilder brother I rebuilt my Lt1 and tranny with:
pistons $500 may not need
cam kit $500 Hotcam
torque converter $650
trans rebuild $850
headers $500
catback $300
gears $350 with install I only spent $50
tune $100
NX kit $500
igniton $200
tires $250
And I am sure i missed some stuff plus installation but thats already about $4,000. You might be able to do it for $3,500 but not reliably. And I have a full weight streetcar not a gutted race car.

I was going to 'prove this' with my car before i started the turbo setup. my orig plan was go 11s for no money.. but then I said fuqit and went turbo

my plan was:
port the heads, 2.00 1.56 valves
comp 977 springs
230/236 on a 110(got it cheap..)
long tube headers

thats it for the motor.

I found the valves for $80, springs were like $135 with retainers and stuff, cam was $120(used), headers were $200(used)

Already had junk drag radials around(bought for $125 on wheels) Repad the stock clutch is about $100.

homemade cold air <$100

gaskets and stuff.. but thats all it really takes. i was gonna run a stock catback with a cutout.

Heather wants heads/cam on her 94.. so I may follow the above

I dont know if that really counts jordan
seeing how all that stuff is used

I am getting complete heads flowing 280ish intake, comp R lifters, Comp pro mags, pushrods, intake manifold (matched), gaskets and the whole deal for what someone would normally pay for just the heads. Thats just because I get my stuff at cost though

To make this a "fair" point, I think he was saying new stuff- or at least I thought he implied it. I'm sure you get your stuff pretty cheap Jordan **cough**billetopti**cough***

If you cant get int he 11's for $3500 using used stuff, your on a crack. I just sold a cam and complete valvetain minus heads that can easily carry you into 11's with a good stall and bolt ons and lloyds heads for $500 or soo .

Figure $600 for head work, $450 for a vigi stall and $300 for odds and ends- you are at about $2100 with drag

Trey youre forgetting exhaust $500-700, gears $100-350, tuning $100-500 depending on if you get a dyno tune which will probably needed to run 11's with a 350 ci LT1.

Jordan not everyone has been building LT1's for 10yrs and has camshafts, headers, shortblocks and tuning tools laying around in the garage. It will take the average guy at least $4,000 to put a stock LT1 car into the 11's w/o a power adder at around 3600lbs which is what most cars weigh with a driver. Even Steve admitted he has an 11.99 bolton good air only car that he spent over $7k on last year racing and building the car. That is no cam or heads. Even Frank 95z about 3300lb with driver has a small Crane210-224 cam and stock heads that runs 11.40's in good weather and 11.60's normally ask him to add up what he spent to get his car running that way. Not counting countless runs down the 1/4 to get the car just right. He is running a 12bolt $2,100 now go figure and so will just about any low 12 to high 11 sec 6 spd. car. Lets compare apples to apples.
