.060 over

Re: .060 over
It is at std bore right now with no ridge and cross-hatch to the top of the bore, the motor had maybe 20k miles when it was crashed. Yeah I'm kinda with LR on this one, I'm even scared to go +.030". These blocks like to crack up from the outside main bolt up through the bore where it is thinest...that would be only .075" per side.
The scary thing is that there appears to be very little if any core shift, as the reading were very consistant and pretty even from side to side and front to back, these are just very thin-wall castings. But like I have said before my LTx experiance is limited, so if people out there are sonic testing these things in the same range and having no issues Personally I don't like seeing any less than .150"

There isn't much way to get out of sonic check if ya are going BIG(over .030)

Re: .060 over
what will happen after it's run? i mean specifically. the shop told me they could try the .060 overbore and see what happens. he said he can normally tell by inspecting it if it will be too thin or not. i'm not too worried about cooling issues... the car runs cold as it is....but i don't want it falling apart on me. btw, how much is a sonic check?

They take one of these and check the thickness of the metal, kinda like sonar.
It will cave in or crack if it's too thin. The car running cool now don't count with thin wall's, it WILL run hot.
I charge $150.00 some may be cheaper if they are doing your machine work.

Read the post M1 just made a couple up.
There is no way on earth to tell by looking if it is too thin. Ya will damn sure know it when ya fire it up.

A half way decent one is 450.00-500.00 dollars and then the probe that comes with it won't do all the jobs so another 100.00 for a smaller one.
Ya can find them on eBay but ya better do research to see what they are and what they do. Some are only capable of measuring thin stuff and ya don't need one that stores 100,000 measurements.
