My guess is the motor was replaced, I watched them pull the motor out and set it in the back of my pick-up. If I hadnt gotten it so cheaply I would have taken it back to them. But it goes to show that in a junkyard things are not a given.

Re: .060 over
the machine shop did the block to a 4.045 finish so i need custom pistons. i'm looking about 790 from diamond for pistons and rings. anybody know of any cheaper? Arias wants 86 a piston, but i can't wait 3-1/2 weeks to have them done. i don't have that kind of time. anybody seen anything?

It will probably be 100-150 to sonic check if somebody in your area does it.

Re: .060 over
the only sonic checking capable shop in my area is a shop that builds motors for nascar's busch series....they don't answer their phones for outsiders either. lol it's probably really expensive too......so am i that much better off to have another .015" of wall?

If ya ever spent the time, money and effort on one and then have it run hot the first time ya run it or worse have it cave a cyl wall, you will know what I am talking about. Been There.

Re: .060 over
the block ran strong and cool at .040 so i think i will be safe at .045. the block was sem heated twice on accident (230 degrees) otherwise it ran cool all the time with no fans on. the block was true and straight when taken apart, just lightly scored to my dislike.
btw, who did u conact about the wiseco pistons???? was this with or without rings?

Re: .060 over
It seems like with a half fill it should keep cool. Probably a bold statement but.....Imho, a .60 over bore with a half fill and a 160 degree thermostat will probably stay just as cool as a stock engine....In the end the engine temp is "supposed" to be regulated by the thermostat.

Re: .060 over
I know of a few .060 over LT1's that run very well.
As for block fill... I'd fill it to the bottom of the freeze plugs. Yes, the temps will go up a little... oil & water. Synthetic oils won't have a problem though. If you're an auto-x kinda guy, you might want to look into an oil cooler.
