Cool Re: $150 to change plugs/wires??? is that right?

I would do it myself. Changing mine gave me a chance to familiarize myself with the engine but give yourself time because it is hell. My plugs took about 5 hours and my wires took about the same.

I used to complain about it, but now that I've done it so many times, I can usually do it in about 45 minutes. sometimes a little longer if the boots are really stuck. and for the record my arms are not that small. and #7 is the only one which USUALLY involves getting under the car.

Take off the alternator, wait until the car is completely cool (duh) Get yourself a 3/8 drive stubby ratchet with a fat handle so you can get enough torque on it.
Once you figure out the right approach. it isn't that bad.

I wish I had the money to blow to have someone else do work on my car and replace something that could be better and cheaper with something stock and more expensive. AC Delco stuff is ok, but the great thing about my AC Delco plugs when I took them out was half of the platinum pucks are gone. MSD wires-$70, Autolite plugs $36 to AC's $52. Around $105 in parts and $0 in labor. And your getting better wires, better plugs (from my experiences), and saving money while learning to work on your own car which will save you even more money in the future. Your also getting a 5 year warranty on your plugs and having King of the Hill as the sponser of your plugs. Thats a great show!

I had a problem getting #7... it was a pain cuz it was stuck on there But all together, I think I can do them all by myself in about 2 hours, but I won't have to worry about that for a while

The most fun is when your dying opti kills you plugs every few weeks. I became a pro at chaning plugs on stock manifolds. I became so good I would do them in the parking lot at college.

Re: $150 to change plugs/wires??? is that right?

My pops works at a local Chevy dealership and with his discount I am getting 8 AC DELCO platnum plugs for $40.88 and the OEM wires for $68.76 and thats not half bad. His mechanic buddy at work (the only guy that has put his hands on my car) said he would do the swap for $150. I am leaning towards having HIM put them in. Everyone here seems to say it SUCKS to put them in...

It sucks but if you ever want to do work on your own car someday, I say you have to start somewhere. Save the $150 and buy a CAI kit or something. Again its up to you. Good discount though, it will prove to be very helpful having someone on the inside for parts.

I honestly think 90% of the reason changing the plugs is so hard is because everyone always talks about how hard it is. It's not that bad. read my previous post I gave a little insight in to changing them.

By the way, thats a really good price on plugs. I pay like $9.50 a piece for delco 906's

Re: $150 to change plugs/wires??? is that right?

I just spent all day Saturday trying to change my plugs/wires. It took me and a friend around 5 hrs to get the driver's side done! I still have to get to the passenger side next weekend. The geniuses(sp?) at FLP didn't mean for you to change the plugs once you've installed their headers! I can totally see why MTI wanted 300 dollars in labor to do the job. Anyone have any experiances with changing plugs on an LT1 with Kook's headers yet?
