Wierd Noise ... Need advice

I have a 01 SS stock ls1 with headers back exhaust. Went on vacation this weekend and while I was gone it started making a wierd noise comming from the driver side closer to the firewall. The noise is hard to describe it kind of sounds like a belt squeak with a light ping. While accelerating you can hear it but once you get to a cruising speed it no longer does it. What could this be? Thanks for any advice.

Hard to say without seeing/hearing it. I wouldn't be too concerned if you haven't really modded the car internally. Get it scanned for codes/code history.

Sounds like it might be an exhaust leak.

Wierd Noise

I know its not a exhaust leak I have already checked that. It almost sounds like a bird chirping belt squeak bad gas ping all together I know your laughing but not sure how else to describe it. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Could be some very minor detonation, what grade fuel are you using?

im running mid grade in it for now until i get some more work done to it. My neighbor listened to it he says he thinks it might be a loose valve.

These cars are premium fuel only. Bad idea running mid grade in it with 10.2:1 compression and headers/exhaust.

Probably audible detonation.

Valves hitting pistons can make a "squeaking" sound, but I HIGHLY doubt it is that with stock valvetrain/cam...

Probably detonation as listed above...

I made the mistake once of using regular unleaded, it seriously sounded like it was about to blow never again.

I would stick with premium too.Thought I was ok with mid-grade cause I don't usually get on it too hard but the ping showed up on a steep hill.Could also be the belt squeeking as well.Mine did that so I replaced it with a Goodyear gatorback & it went away
