What year LS1 came with these heads?

I have an LS1 engine and it has 853 heads on it. Just wondering what year or years came with these heads.
Thanks
Kent

I've got a set of the same heads, and they came off a 00' T/A. They're the 315hp head castings.

The 853 and 241 castings are the two most common LS1 heads. They have been used on LS1 engines from 99 to 02.

Is one casting better than the other or are they the same?

Wrong. 853s were used for 99 and most of 2000. Late 00s -02s have the new casting 241s which are said to flow a little better, though I've never seen any imperical data. I do know that my 00 with 241s with exactly the same mods as my buddies 00 with 853s was just as fast, and his is a stick, mine is an auto. Both Formulas ran 12.9x@108 on the same day same track.

the 241's flow significantly better. From the info I gatheres the flow around 10-20 CFM better at .500 and .600 lift.

Re: What year LS1 came with these heads?

not near that much, but yes....They redesigned the castings they were using allowing the heads to be made a little larger and cleaner. It's very minute and GM claims that there reall is no difference, but I have the flow sheet somewhere...I got one from LS1tech. and the other from this board in the advanced section. It's under stock LS1 airflow #'s. It's really quite amazing, but I think the Big Three have gone retro on us, since they're starting to underrate motors again. The LS1 crate motors are advertised at like 350 hp and dyno out to 400+. Figure that one out. I think we're about to relive the 70's. YEAH HP wars here we come!!

Horse power wars are exactly what we need to keep the technology growing.
