What Should I Expect ?

What Should I Expect ?
Considering a purchase of an 02 Formula - 310 HP, automatic. What ETA/MPH should I expect to run the 1/4 in? Also how difficult would it be to get this car to run a real low 13 or high 12? Goal is MPH, not so much ETA. Figure 107 to 110 as the ideal 1/4 MPH. Are these performance figures reasonable? If so what mods would be necessary.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
I have a 6 speed and I don't race much, so there will be better input to follow... I just want to put in my .02 incase you didn't know some things.
The numbers you are looking for are easily do-able. The low 13s can be reached with just free mods by my understanding.
You can get some of the free mods at these sites:
www.ls1.com
www.installuniversity.com
www.ls1camaro.net
Free t-stat mod
The basic mods to any LS1:
Lid
FRA (free ram air)
Cat-back or muffler... anything to dump stock muffler.
The big ticket item to go faster with an A4:
A stall converter, get the basics first, then a stall.
Next: Just incase you weren't aware, auto cars come with 2 gear ratios. I don't remember what the standard one is, but it is terrible... a 2.xx something ratio, and it only comes with a steel driveshaft (heavy). The optional gear ratio is a 3.23, which is got to be quite a bit better. As an added bonus, most 3.23 cars got the aluminum driveshaft which allows more power to reach the wheels.
Hopefully some diehard A4 guys will jump in here quick and give you more info, and maybe correct any mis-info in my response.
Good luck
Dave

Here's a dumb question: I have an A4, how do I figure out what gears I have? And how hard is that converter to change?

The Formula should run mid 13's right off the showroom floor. If you're lucky enough to get a factory freak, you could see low 13's your first time at the track.
What can you do to help it out? As mentioned earlier ... free mods! I don't know if the Formula comes with a "performance axle" option like the Z28 does. The stock rear is 2.73, the performance axle gives you 3.23.
The best mod for an A4? Higher stall torque converter. A 3000 stall with 3.42 (or 3.73 if you're feeling ballsy) rear will make it run like a raped ape! You'll need traction though, so get some tires with a little more bite.
My advice? Take it to the track BONE STOCK and get a good set of baseline runs. Then start the modding process.
One last piece of advice ... with the A4 tranny, a Hypertech programmer will make the car drive completely different. It's hard to explain, but the car responds so much better.
My 2001 Z28 A4 2.73 laid down 284 RWHP bone stock. With nothing but the Hypertech programmer, I got a 14 RWHP gain. I laid down 298 RWHP.
