Those were the extra options for 99. If you just got the base SS like me, it was just hood, wheels, spoiler, and exhaust. The hood and the exhaust made some extra power over the stock Z28, but not much. The hood is not really a ram air setup...but, more of a factory cold air setup.

PS - Maybe we could get some kinda top 10 FAQ list going...because it seems this topic comes up at least once a month, if not more.

Ok so its bascically an appearance package. So that hood scoop does nothing?
Flowmaster has decent sound, but in not the highest flowing exhaust. may only gain 5-10 from changing exhaust. SS package, is more than just appearance, its status and performance as well. While it is true, that they are not much faster than some Z28s, they are faster. The SLP Lid and Y-pipe are great mods. K+N filters have their benefits/negatives. Some people say they don't flow as well as paper, but I don't have any experience with them so I can't say. I will say that when you go to recharge the filter with K+N's kit make sure you heavily spray the pink coating as it is what catches dirt. But also be sure to let it completely dry, because if you don't the oil will get sucked in to your engine. Congrats on the purchase, I think you will be happier. The 98 SS is a great car. Keep reading what people have to say on this site, and you will find that .

Nope. entry level Bilstiens as compared to DeCarbons, different springs, larger front swaybar.

The gearing is the same 3.42s for a M6 and 3.23s for an A4. These gears are available in any V8 f-body.

[B]That's about it. And the SS stickers give at least 3 hp too.

The SS package was an APPEARANCE PACKAGE.
17" Wheels.
Air induction hood. (not forced air - The hood doesn't seal to the lid)
Rear spoiler.
Different (slightly better) cat back.
...AND SS emblems.

So the Bilstien shocks, larger front sway bar, and low profile tires are for looks. These are standard on a 98 SS and I thought that they were for handling

True, I should have worded it differently. 2.73s are not a option on the SS is my point.

Actually, All SS Camaro's came with DeCarbon shocks teamed with a 32mm front swaybar and Z28 rear bar.

The Bilstein stuff was optional from SLP.

Sorry for the newbie question. It would be really great if this site did have an FAQ section. They have it on MCSS.COM and it helped me out alot when i first got my monte. Some thing for the mods to think about

Ok, so if the SS hood is just kinda like a cold air induction hood, then how come the WS6 hood says ram air on it?

if you look at the hood on an ss the intake on the air is centered on the hood so it has to make a circle to enter the intake on the WS6 hood it is on the front part of the hood so it has no circle to make it is stright in hope that helped

Nice list but what year is it for? There were changes made over the life of the program.
Our base non Y2Y 98 SS came with Bilstiens not DeCarbons.
