What makes an SS an SS?
Hello, i just bought a 98 Camaro SS. I dont know too much about these cars. I know more about the LT-1 because that was in my price range but fate would put a 98 SS in my lap. So i bought the car. But i was woundering what makes a Camaro SS an SS. I know that they were converted by SLP and that they got special wheels, hood scoop, Better exhaust (true dual or X pipe i havent looked yet) and i know that they make 325 HP but that is it. Can someone please fill me in? Thanks for the help

Do a search and you will get a whole load of info on that. Basically the differance is the hood w/forced induction, the wheels w/17" tires, the rear wing, and the exhaust is better (although they are not true duals). I think you can e-mail your vin# to SLP and get a list of all the extras that came on your car. Good luck!

How can you tell what build # your SS is?
I remember seeing in someone's sig that there were only like 500 some total NBM SS's built. No wonder I never see this color on the road, I like a little bit of exclusivity.

The SS package was an APPEARANCE PACKAGE.
17" Wheels.
Air induction hood. (not forced air - The hood doesn't seal to the lid)
Rear spoiler.
Different (slightly better) cat back.
...AND SS emblems.
The biggest advantage that all SS's had was the availability of SLP options such as exhaust, suspension, intake and appearance modifications that Z28's were not able to get. Most never saw any of these extra mods from SLP but they were available. An SS in stock trim will run EXACTLY the same times as an equally equipped Z28. I wish this site had a FAQ section so people could get generic historical information like this whithout soliciting all the comments from people who really don't know what they are talking about. I think some people just type responses to question to hear that intoxicating clicking sound.

ok, well my SS has SLP induction Lid with K&N filter and a SLP Y-pipe. and flow master. Are these good mods to have done?
Ok so its bascically an appearance package. So that hood scoop does nothing?
