What do you protect your LS1 with?

exactly his point and it isn't that simple if you put the black box under the console or somewhere other than under the steering wheel someone who acts like they know everything such as yourself should know that.
For content protection I'd go aftermarket. I used to know some jerks that broke into cars to get radar detectors and they told me just seeing the blinking red light was enough to make them skip the car in favor of one that didn't have an alarm.
For protection against vehicle theft I'm less convinced. I understand the ins and outs of the Passlock system and I'd be hard pressed to beleive that anyone who can bypass that couldn't bypass an aftermarket alarm with a simple starter or ignition interrupt.

Do you honestly think alarms work? Come on now. What's it going to do? I've seen and heard alarms go off in parking lots and people don't even look. The reason being, no one ****ing cares. If you've seen gone in 60 seconds you can disconnect an alarm in like 10 seconds. What's the point of them? They aren't going to prevent anyone from breaking into your car. If you want an alarm get LoJack.

Not to get too off-topic, but I love to mess with people's alarms, especially the ones that have the sensitivity way too high. Goose the throttle in the parking lot and they give the warning beep. Rev it up a little more as I'm leaving and set the thing off. I guess aftermarket alarms are good for something besides content protection
Ok I sell car alarms so heres the deal. Stock alarms suck regardless, that crappy little chip you have on your ignition key is easily bypassed. Now as far as alarms get DEI ALARMS ARE THE MARKET. They own Viper and Clifford. Cifford is there higher-end brand that has better sensors, optional low jack and if you want to do fancy stuff like control actuators or roll down your windows its a good system. But for your standard alarm viper systems are the best. If you want remote start as well go with the Viper 550 thats the one I had and worked great I just recently upgraded to the viper 790 because of the display remote and extended range. For a standard alarm get the Viper 600 is got the ability to add aditional sensors that dont come with the unit such as motions sensors which I highly recommend.
Stay away from that flee market crap that is $150 or less installed its made by some no name brand and is garbage. Also if you have a DEI alarm installed by and authorized dealer it comes with a limited life time warranty which means as long as you own your car and no one else messes with the alarm its covered if anything goes wrong. Most shops will also cover the installation for as long as you own the vehicle. Which brings me to my next point don't have best buy or Circuit City install your alarm, they are what most real shops call entry level installers. The problem with their installers is they are paid by the hour for the most part so they dont care if they do a crappy job or a great job. While most more reputable shops that may cost alittle more will do it right the first time cause they get paid on install and not when you have to come back to fix their bad install. The final note on alarms and getting your car broken into is this the key to getting your car not broken into is to not park in bad neighbor hoods where stuff like this happens. If you have a loud stereo system don't bump it till you park then leave your car theives in the area will hear it and take your stuff. Also a good alarm is no good without a good installer and vice versa so talk to your installer about how they install and their experience.
And finally as if I haven't rambled on enough if you live in the Chicagoland area I can hook you up on the alarm. My name is Phil so you can call me at 630-990-1410 where at Tweeter in Oakbrook, IL.

You can't think like that man, your making it THAT much easier for someone to steal your machine. Sure, nothing is garanteed but, YES, it does make a difference in most cases. You can't assume that every car theif is a professional. Lots of f-bodies out there, why steal one with a nice top of the line state of the art alarm system? Why take that chance?

But still standing by every little bit helps.... even if it does protect you from joy riders

Its like saying why lock the doors to the house everyone know how to kick down the door for that matter why even have a door... [/QUOTE
Honestly, why like the doors to your house? Someone will get in if they want in. Might as well have 1 less thing to repair. Having an alarm on a house is just a bit different than a car. You have people like ADT that are monitering your home 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Your home also protects your family, something that can NOT be replaced. No alarm will prevent ANYTHING from happening to your car or from anything being stolen out of it. An alarm might protect you from idiots that don't know what they are doing but if you have something in your car that someone will want or have a nice car that someone might want to steal. An alarm will do nothing and in all honestly, what's the point in having an alarm on a stock car? If you must have an alarm, get LoJack. NO alarm will prevent anything from being stolen out of it or your car being stolen itself but LoJack can atleast find it ASAP.

Your right, cutting wires is soo hard. The average moron couldn't do it...What movie did a green neon eclipse run 10 seconds in the 1/4 mile?? I must have missed that movie. Be realistic, what's so hard for you guys to see my point?? It's not like i'm saying imports are better than domestics. Your just disagreeing because I don't have a Camaro. Read it and god forbid, think about it. Car alarms do ****ing nothing, I know from experience how much they do.

I dont care what kind of car you have that is not why I disagree I just have a diffrent stand than you do on the alarm issue... The kind of car has nothing to do with it.... I used to own a 99 Honda Accord V6 that would Leave most Cars Domestic or Imports in the dust... of cource it was not stock...

Actually speaking of something that happened in that movie is just as bad as saying a non turbo with 1 nos tank in real life that runs 14.1 runs 10's...That was complete and utter bull****, the whole movie was. Gone in 60 Seconds was not. That's is how fast the pro's steal your car, alarm or not. Snip, Snip and an alarm is dead.

True it can be done but not everyone can do it that fast..... so you cannot say every car that is taken was just a snip snip

Thats exaclty why I have a DEI voice module. You would be suprised not only the amount of people that look, but that actually come over to the car because It is saying "Protected by Viper, Stand Back!" through an amplified speaker. Not saying this would stop the hardcore theif, but it is one of the best detereants I have seen. I also like that the car actually says "Violation" when someone has disturbed the alarm. As for the alarms with the pagers, every test we did with them, it would not work through walls very well (especially Mall walls).

I had one that had a pager from alpine and I had no Probs... Not even throwgh walls all depends on how much you want to spend.... you dont want one to reach ferther than a fottball field you would never get to your car in time
