weird button thing

hey guys
In my ashtray on my 98 z28 (i think the ashtray is the thing right behind the shifter) theres a strange button mounted in the corner. it has a yellow and a green wire running from it toward the front of the car--Anyone know what this is or was? thanks

It's not stock. Maybe it was for nitrous. Another common thing would be an electric cutout or neon lights. I'd follow the wires.

if it's an auto isn't there a mod to switch to "performance shift" mode?

Kind of. It's actually a little box with a switch. I guess it could be re-wired to a button though

Sorry, should have been more clear: the button talked about above (with the box) is actually a mod you can get that plugs into your tranny, then you run the box into you compartment, and you can change the firmness on the go. But yeah, there isn't one from the factory. Sorry, my bad.

Well, IMO I don't know why you wouldn't firm shifts ALL the time. Softer shifts actually slip the tranny and cause more wear and tear than harder shifts would.

BUT, if you do want to do a swith, the only way I'd know is to get that tranny module. I think SLP is the one that makes it. Like I said, it's plugged into your tranny, then you run it up through the bottom of the car, through the shifter, I think. Then you could either use the box they supply or have a friend who knows wiring, and wire up your own button/switch.

Hope this helps

there is an ashtray light that comes stock in our cars. turns on when interior lights are on. i guess it's to see while you're counting your change in the dark...
