and i've had it 3 months
only reason i haven't topped it out... is lack of safe road to continue on at that speed.
i mean... it can make you a little nervy
but if the road is right... i could cruise at 130 for an hour and be comfortable.
wouldn't do it with anyone in the car with me tho

Re: Top Speed
Birch, I understand aero drag. My old '98 1LE Z28 once hit the stock limiter, what ever the stock limiter was set at.
With only 410rwhp, my '01 has ran 166 mph in 1 mile. These cars are more aerodynamic than you might give them credit for. 400rwhp will pull 190 but it will take almost 7 miles of straight to acheive that speed.

Re: Top Speed
fastest i've gone in mine so far is 135. Although that was on a stretch of road that i had to turn off of, so i had to shut down to make the turn. Road was probably only 1/3 mile tops.
gone 110 many times, haven't had the opportunity to push her too hard yet. I'm assuming 160.

Re: Top Speed
there is a website with speedometer photos. Its off that website that they ahve a photo of an f-body driving by a radar that detects it going at 224mph. That was the fastest speed on that website and the only one where the speed was not shown on a speedometer.

Re: Top Speed
back in the 90's a camaro with a blown 383 LT1 went 212 mph with 2.73s and a six speed. in made it into GM high Tech performance. as for me, i've be somewhere above 155, i'd guess about 156-158 range.

Re: Top Speed
There's also a vid floating around of a turbo'd SS that burries the speedo and the RPMs keep rising. I have it on disc at home, but no space left to host it. If I get a minute, I'll try and submit it to a free host and post the link.

Re: Top Speed
Lingenfelter's 383 Package pushed a 1995 Formula to about 192. Seeing as it was a magazine test, it may have had a little extra. Power, drag, and gearing are essential. If the gearing isn't right to get you to your peak power at the right speed, the car will fall on its face. Road & Track 6/95. It was a 6 speed with 3.23 gears.

I've had my car over 2 years now and have only gotten it to 125. Thoughts of a nice big speeding ticket, car being impounded and jail time popped into my head so I slowed it down. You've only had your car for 3 months? Maybe you should slow it down and get used to it a bit more. Thats why young driver's insurance rates are so high. Going that fast, inanimate object tend to project greater gravitational forces and suck cars into them.
Z's and Formulas are limited to a lower speed due to them coming with lower speed rated tires. IIRC Z rated tires were an option for them but I don't think the factory recalibrated the limiter for that.

Video of my car hitting 166 mph in 1 mile from stop
Todd Carpenters old '96 Camaro has been clocked over 200 many times at various open road races. Dig around on google.
I drove my car in the BBORR a couple weeks ago. Averaged 125.264 over 118 miles, starting from a stop twice, and limited to a top speed of 140, I was clocked at 139 mph twice (car 125 in the 125 class).
My car is stable as a rock at 140 or 160.
