Angry The thermostat

I was going to replace the thermostat today.
Picked up a replacement from a GM dealer.

I finally got the old one out and realized the replacement was about 1/4 the size of the old one. Also it appears that the T-stat is built into the housing.

It sure would've been nice if the damn dealership either got me the right part or told me I'd have to get the whole damn housing .

Now I've got to put the old one back in and fill it all up again. It's been taking forever for the car to warm up, the T-stat is leaking.

Anyone else replaced their LS1 T-stat?

I installed a hypertech 180* stat with no problems. Sounds like the parts guy at the dealer is a moron. It's kinda hit and miss with parts guys. Some know, others don't and just guess.

Parts guys are only as good as their books. 2000-02 LS1s use a tiny thermostat in a housing such as Hypertechs or SLPs. Both are made in Germany by the way and can be found cheaper on the net

The thermostat in mine was huge! It was imbedded into the housing. It almosted looked like it could separate.
