Sudden loss of power

I drove my car last night, and it was driving great.
Took it out this morning, and it was like a ford dragging an anvil. Just slower than normal. Doesnt take off like it usually does, and gaining speed is hard as well.
I know you cant judge these things with a vague description, but any help on figuring out what the problem is would be welcomed.

I'll list the things that have changed with it in the last couple weeks.

Two weeks ago it had a loudmouth installed, but its been running fine.

Yesterday I missed a gear and grinded pretty bad.

This morning i noticed a whine (kind of high pitched) as I got up into higher RPMs. I'm pretty sure it wasnt there yesterday, because its kind of noticeable.

Again, thank you for the help ... I dont know what to do.

you could have messed up your rear end somehow. the whine could be your gears. this could account for the slugishness. when you say you grinded the gear, that makes me think you messed up your gears. just a guess. good luck

how he could screw up the rear end as a direct result of missing a gear is beyond me.

althought your rear end may be messed up, a whine is not really a big deal, and shouldnt make the car slower. something in the rear that would slow the car down I would expect to make a LOT of noise at pretty much every speed.

couple of stupid questions:

describe "missed a gear" did you put it in the wrong gear like from 3rd into 2nd instead of 4th? or did it just not go into gear...

Did you happen to add fuel just before it did this? Did you fill it up after the incident? Have you used lower octane recently?

I was trying to go into second, "thought" it was in gear, let out the clutch and obviously it wasnt. Its been pretty touchy the last couple months.

Fuel? I had about half a tank at the time, I filled up a couple hours later with premium as usual.

2002 ss by the way.

Thanks for the help.

hmm, thought maybe you bent some pushrods, or got ahold of some bad gas that tripped you into the low octane spark table.

I take it no SES light?

Cool

Check all the dumb stuff first like IAT sensor, throttle body opening fully, fresh gasoline etc. If no luck try and find somebody to A-tap it. Was there a drastic weather cahnge?
