Question GM's 5 yr. Battery

I have GM's 5 yr. battery in my car. I bought the car in Feb. and was wondering if this battery really is good for 5 yrs.? The green indicator light in the battery works, but have any of you guys with '98s ever had a dead battery and has your battery lasted the full 5 yrs.?

How much does this replacement battery cost?

I don't have a 98 but the battery in my 2000 didn't make it 5 years. A month ago it started to leak acid around the positive terminal. I'm lucky I noticed it pretty early but it did mess up the paint under the battery.

Delco batteries suck and are known to randomly blow up. One word. Interstate. Trust me.

GM Battery died right at 5 years

I have a 98 Z28, my original battery luckily died when I was running the stereo in my garage, got the 5 years though! after about 10 minutes of the CD running off the battery she would not turn over. after a jump from AAA it kicked over and I ran it for an hour or so but went and replaced it that day. maybe I could have gotten around awhile with that battery but it is not worth the chance of getting stuck...

Interstate does make good batteries, I had one in my Grand Prix.

I was wondering if I could just disconnect my GM battery and drop in an Interstate, or is there some special procedure involved like when changing the oil and the coolant?

The battery looks like it's brand new and the dealership must have installed it, so I'll keep it in for a little while longer to get my money's worth. I just don't want to get caught with a dead battery, it's a major inconvenience.

I didn't think a car better would last 5 yrs., especially in FL.

Optima batteries are good.

If you have any reason to worry about the Delco, get rid of it. Disconnect both cables, remove the mount (1 bolt) and pull it. Reverse. 10 minutes.

Thumbs down

My POS Delco battery lasted 2 years before failing. I replaced it with a smaller, lighter Wal-Mart battery that has worked flawlessly. Interstate makes a great battery, but expensive. If my car was a daily-driver, I would have bought an Interstate or Optima.
