should I keep the waranty?

Ok I just bought my 2000 SS and I ordered a lid and want a 12 bolt sometime this summer. I purchased a extended warranty for 1500 dollars but now I think I shouldn't have since it will be voided in no time once I start modding. Plus i am gonna put my nx kit in here soon. Do you think i should get the $1500 back or keep it? Any idea's are apreciated thanx.

what kind of things will void the warranty and what won't? I know that a catback won't but what else?

well technically nothing voids the warranty unless it causes the problem, but i know the dealers and they all will give bs about abuse cause of the parts so i am iffy plus i don't want to disconnect everything everytime i bring it in.

i would say get ride of the warrenty, the second that nitrous goes on youll get way to much bs from the dealer saying thats why your car is messed up...even if it has nothing to do with nitrous. Does the 12 bolt "void" it?

And plus its a chevy...it will be fine!

you only Void the part of the warrenty that you replace with after market parts and anything connected to them or work in conjuction with..... However with all the stuff you are planinng on doing I would get my money back I don't think you will have $1500 worth to cover with all the stuff you plan on doing.

I've always liked having the warranty. It came in handy when the cats in my car went bad. It was really great when the dealership cashier handed me my receipt after my car was fixed, and saying "Your all set", even though I didn't pay a thing

By law anything that is bolt on is considered a direct replacement part. This is a federal law so it doesn't really matter what bull**** the dealer gives you. Meaning, headers, exhaust, intake, springs, shocks, etc.... It's when you start putting stuff on the car that isn't a direct replacement that screws people, such as NOS, turbo, supercharger, FPR, additional fuel pumps, etc...

Springs, Shocks and intake are a little tricky they are only covered if they are within specs of the car that is where they get you.

Maybe you got me there. Shocks might be ok but it will be a bunch of legal crap with the springs...However, exhaust, intake, headers and stuff in that matter is ok.

True Basicly it is anything that will not not make a drastic change in the car Heasers and ect. Does not Void it but do say you put a flow master muffler on... it will not cover your muffler still would have to cover say your heads. but since the muffler is aftermaket and not put on or recomender my the Dealer..... Warrenty were designed to cover a defective part on a car....

Pentatonic...I believe there is a federal law in place that auto makers have to cover catalytic converters for 7 or 8 years.

MY84Z...have you checked into cancelling your warranty? In 2000 I bought a new Monte Carlo Z34 and bought the extended warranty for about $1500. I traded the car before I hit 36k miles and the warranty refund was prorated from 0 miles. Meaning that even though I was still covered by the factory warranty, the extended warranty was in effect during the time I drove the car. I had about 30k on the car when I traded it and that was about 40% of the 72k it was covered for. They refunded my the remaining 60%. So I ended up losing $600 on the deal. Read the fine print of your contract. Mine said that the warranty started at 0 miles and whatever date the car was placed in service. So you will probably get a prorated portion that is the lesser of what is remaining time wise and mileage wise.

To anyone that is considering buying an extended service agreement... Negotiate the price just like you do on the price of the car. It is amazing how many people just pay whatever is asked for. The dealers make money on the contract and the work they end up doing!! A girl I work with paid 1700 for a 65k warranty on her used Grand Am and I paid $945 for a 72k warranty for a Z28.
