Engine blown, got a little question

Right now I have 2 options to get my car fixed, Either get a rebuild for 2500$ with a one year 12k waranty, or a used engine from a scrap yard out of a 94 z for 2000$ with 1 year waranty and no milege limit and I can purchase a second year waranty parts only for 135$

Does the $2500 include removal, installation, etc.?

When my bottom went to hell, I bought a new short block for $1750 (dropped shipped to mech.)

The mech. used all of my stuff from the old block except lifters, oil pump, gaskets, etc.

Total cost including short block $4700.00.

So if the 2500 includes removal, rebuild and reinstall, I'd say that's pretty good (depending, of course, how well it is rebuilt). JMHO

I would have it rebuilt. You are going to then have a fresh motor and not one that you don't know where its been. Remember a warranty does not include labor usually. Just becuase the scrap yard will give you another motor you still have a thousand or two in labor cost to pay.

that's the thing, the scrap yard are giving labor in the waranty for the first year.

I would do it yourself, as I did last week. The rebuild process took me 2 days and I spend $800 (new pistons, rings, bearings, all new gaskets, Hot cam KIT, new timing chain, headers). The parts were so cheap because I bought everything from eBay. I did the rebuild by my self (my father mechanic helped me with some problems). If I were you I would buy all parts and pay for somebody to rebuild your engine, and then put if by yourself. I am sure there are some guys from this forum, that live near you and will do rebuild for the 1/3 of the costs of the shop.

Thats nice that the yard is going to cover that, very odd though. I would still have your rebuilt. Would you rather have a fresh motor or a motor will 100k on the clock and 100k to go? For around the same price you get a NEW motor and if you trust your engine builder that will last a very long time.

2500 with labor? Say thats 1500 for labor that means they want 1000 bucks for a used LT-1 thats a rip. Im trying to sell a used LT-1 motor for 500 and no freaking takers. I had my machinest build my fully forged blower motor 3.8k with all new parts.

If you going with one of them no matter what do the rebuild, and make sure to buy a new REAL cam.

The junkyard thing sounds like a rip to me. A used LT1 motor goes around here for between 500 and 1000 bucks. I'd go with the rebuild personally.

k, going with the rebuild
I thought about that as well the other day about buying all the parts myself and then seeing how much someone at his home would charge to do it.

Searching for parts was the hardest thing. It took me 2 weeks to find all parts. Email this guy : dwpartsguy@erwparts.com he sold me the pistons, bearings, rings, head bolt kit and 1.6SA rr for $300 (shipped)

I would not buy a book of matches from EBAY. Your talking high po engine parts . Buy it all new and if theres a problem you can get another one. Dont forget many of your parts could be reused, before buying used ebay parts from some jack ***.
