Revving with No load? How high is to high?

hey..i was just wondering how high you guys rev your cars with no load? whether that be in neutral or in park...i know that your never suppost to rev an engine to high with no load..but my freind has a 96 z28 with an LT1...and he'll sit there and rev that thing to 6 grand in park all day long and he has 126 thousand miles on his car...so i was wondering how high you guys rev your cars with no load..and what you think is the highest you could go before doing damage? thanks in advance

Why the hell would you want to rev your car to 6k in park or neutral? When I throw a quick rev at someone, I never go higher than 3500-4000.

Agreed. Reving the engine in park to 6K is not a good idea, putting it mildly. I wouldn't rev the car much at all. But when circumstances call for it, nothing more than a blip to the 3000 - 4000 RPM range.

yea i totally agree with you that its 100 percent pointless, and believe me i'm well aware of the danger of over-revving an engine with out a load..its just my dumbass freind who thinks its fine..and argues everytime i tell him he's a dumbass for doin it..i just wanted some other ppls opinions so i could show him that i'm not the only one who knows its bad..and that not everyone out there revs the **** outta there car for the fun of it.
