Replacement of alternator

Does anyone have good instructions on replacement of B4C high amp output alternator for a 98 Z-28?

I appreciate the reply. Not really new. New username. Already did search. Too man hits. I have a 94 Z, 98 Z, and 02 Z. Was hoping to find an easy answer.

Lightbulb Don't know that I can tell you about a B4C alternator, ...

but I can say that replacing the factory one in my SS was an interesting chore.

(Translation: what a bee-yotch ! )

I'd say the best analogy is trying to get a 12" x 3.5" item out of a 13" x 4" hole - theres only one way, and I had to work like hell to find it !

I strongly suggest that if you can, find a way to disconnect the tiny feed wire that is on top of the alternator first as I broke mine thinking it had enough length in it to remove from the bottom after the lat. was loose.

Sad to say, but no, it did not. Sure does now, though !

Other than that, it is the usual - loosen the serpentine belt ( easy ) , and unbolt the 3 ( I think ) mounting bolts that hold the alt up, and the one output lead wire. Even when the bolts were loose, mine would not come off - I had to do some wiggling & tapping to loosen it from it's death grip.

Oh, yeah - my gauges & dash warning lights starting doing some weird things , and my volts were either low, or high , never normal - that's how I knew mine had gone south.

Good luck, and hope this helps some !

When giving advice like this start at step 1: disconnect the battery
