Question Rear Brake Rattle--Please Help

I hear a metal-on-metal rattle coming from the rear of my car and have traced it to a donut shaped metal guard located on the inside of my rear disks. I hear it going over rough spots on the road....very obnoxious.

Can anyone tell me what this guard is for? I haven't had a brake job yet so i haven't taken it off. I can kick my tires and I hear the noise quite well!

Is this normal on stock disks?

Do aftermarket disks (auto zone, powerslots, etc) have this? Is there a grease or silicone type product that I could use?

I would appreciate any input cause it's driving me insane.

You need to remove your rear disc. Inside is your emerg. brakes, like a small drum brake. Something is loose in there. Later>>>>>

It could be the backing plate bolts. There is a TSB on replacing them. It affected a range of VINs.

XBCHBUM is correct. Mine had that rattle too. (2002 Z28 Convertible) It was very annoying to me also. It's a warranty job, so take it in if you're still within the warranty period. Very simple fix.
