Question about M6 and porting MAF
alright i have a 99 trans am i have only had for a month now and i have some questions about driving the manual. How come every time i shift from first to second the car jerks, i usually shift at 15 miles per hour??? am i letting off of the clutch to fast. I have never been taught how to drive a manual so i am still learning.
Also is it possible to port the MAF on these 99 and later LS1 cars, does the screen come out or not.
sorry for the stupid questions i am stll getting familiar with the car!!!
Thanks alot.

congrants on the new car..
I still have an slight lurch once in a while with the 1-2 shift if I'm not paying attention at low speeds.. . My friends that drive stick also agree that its touchy at low speeds if you don't do it right. Its a combination of the clutch and gas and timing.. You'll get it a feel for it eventually..
You can pop the screen out.. check if it has debrie in it.. If it does, check for leaks where debrie can go in before you pop it out.. i left mine in.
Porting the MAF can cause your computer to lean the air/fuel mixture out.. itmight be good for some cars that run a little rich... but if yor already running good, you might hurt your performance.. its a toss up.. theo nly way to know for sure is it either go ahead and try it, or find out how yor car is running thru a scanner..
btw, before you start rowing thru the geras as fast as you can, you might want to read up on hand position.. As a guideline, I shift with my palm and with a very light but firm grip....don't have to strangle the shifter.. 1-2 is like a piston grip, palm ont he right side of the ****. 2-3 is more palm, on the 7-8 oclock position, pushing towards 3rd, elbow tucked in to my side a lil to make sure i don't go into 1st again.. 3-4 is your plam ont he left side of the **** thumb down light but firm grip, with my elbow out so I can have a clean staright pull down solid into 4th.
Not eveyrone does it, but since i"ve done that, i've never hit the wrong gear again. Find out what works for you..
Oh, and if you still have the stock shifter, you'll want to get an aftermarket one.. Trust me.. its worth it.. Pro 5.0 or the Ripper are probbaly the most popular..

I think you've gotten some good advice on shifting. I still have a little "bog" when starting off easy in 1st. (no bog when I dump/launch though)
As for portingyour MAF ... some cars take it better than others. Here's my suggestion.
Buy a set of aftermarket ends. Keep your stock ends. That way, if it's goofy, then you can switch back to the stockers and sell your aftermarkets.
Or, you can do what I did ... I found a guy here on the board who had installed aftermarket ends. I then bought his OEM ends. Then I ported/polished one set, but had an OEM set sitting on my shelf.
My Z28 loved the ported ends. But with the T/A, it runs better with the stock ends. So ... just do something that gives you a set of stock ends to fall back on.
