Cool Proud new LS1 owner.

My wish finally came true. A '99 pewter, M6, leather, t-tops, Z28 is now mine. 43k on it, but it looks brand new. Rides great. Some lady owned it, and I guess she was the one that had a flowmaster catback installed. I gotta admit I like it, even though I hate the flowmaster on my thirdgen. A lid is definatly in the near future and when I get some money, some hooker LTs and a y-pipe.

I put nearly 100 miles on the car tonight. I'm liking it more and more every shift. The brakes squeak a little when stopping slowly, and the front two speakers seem to be blown or messed up somehow. Other than that, I really think this car is mint.

Wow, I'm pumped. LS1

edit: Ok...forgot to ask my questions. 1. The light for the skip shift comes on, but the actual skip shift seems to be disabled. Is this normal if it has been disabled? 2. The car seemed to heat up rather quickly to 210 and just kinda planted the needle there all night. I've read around and heard that the stats in these cars aren't very accurate. Obviously a 180 stat would be a decent idea?

Yes, I have noticed the engine warms up fast, and the fans kick on a lot in hot weather. I had leather seats in the '00 v6 that I owned, but sold that car to buy this one. I sure wish I had leather in my '99. I did put on some seatcovers that make it easy to slide around (like leather) and helped the looks some.
The best addition so far to my '99 is the 10 spoke SS rims, next will be the SLP grille then a whisper lid intake.

Congrats!
I bought mine in February and I love it more everyday. My skip shift light still comes on even though I don't need to shift to 4th; I'm not sure if it's because of the aftermarket shifter or that he put an eliminator in. As far as the temp, I have a Hypertech Thermosat and my temp always stays about 160 on the gauges; it might help, seems we both live in hot areas!

What a great feeling to get behind the wheel of you own LS1!

My skip shift light still comes on to tell me that the conditions are right and I will now be forced to shift into 4th. But wait, my Skip shift eliminator has quashed the signal. I can shift into 2nd if I want to. Thanks aftermarket people.

Congrats. The skip shift light will come on even if there is some type of eliminator installed. The eliminator works as follows: when the "skip shift" condition is reached, the skip shift light comes on in the cockpit, then the computer sends a signal to the skip shift circuit in the tranny. The eliminator simply puts a resistor on that circuit, tricking the computer into thinking there is a load out there, in this case, the skip shift circuitry.
If you really want to know if there is one installed (there obviously is in your case) just pop under the car and look about halfway down the tranny, towards the rear of the car. On top there will be a set of prottected wires that "should" go directly into a connector on top of the tranny. If there is an eliminator installed, you will see it in between the wires and the connector, or in my case, the cable is unplugged and tied off (I have a resistor installed directly into the plug).

Oh, as for the 210 deg. temp, that is normal on the LS1's. I have an '02 that runs pretty much all the time at 210.

Congrats, welcome to the club.

On the temp gauges, the 1998 was fairly accurate, but too many people complained, so a wide range of values now show up as about 210.
