Ported MAF results at the track

I went to the dragway last week and did 7 runs with my '02 Z28 M6 convert.. The only mods I've done is FTRA, K&N filter, LS1 lid and Flowmaster muffler. I did the first 3 runs with the stock MAF and the best run I got was 13.485@104.96 with a 2.11 sec short time on street tires. That was the best of 4 runs, the others around 13.5-13.6 with a slowest of 103.9mph. After the 4th run, a guy at the track approached me and offered to sell me a ported and de-screened stock MAF. I told him I didn't think they added any power with the few mods I had. He said " Let's put it in right now and you can try it before you buy it." I did and on the next run I pulled a 13.509@105.9 mph with a 2.24 short time. The next run I got 13.44@105.9 again with a 2.19 short time. I never went below 105 mph after installing it and the track started to go away traction-wise. If I could have manged another 2.11 short time I think I could have got in the 13.3's. maybe hitting 106mph. I never got past 105mph with 4 trips to the track and about 16 runs before. Needless I bought it from him $50. I think I must have picked up at least 6-8 hp.

That's very good to hear!

I'm glad I gain something from my ported MAF as well.

Glad to see you had good initial results. Keep us posted, and don't be surprised if the PCM "learns" the new MAF and you start running rich again.

Also ... ditch the Flowmaster (or at least get a cutout). The Flowmaster mufflers sound good, but they don't flow.

My WS6 had a Flowmaster muffler on it when I got it. I loved the sound and didn't want to get rid of it. But, I knew it was hindering exhaust flow.

I installed a cutout and then did the dyno session. With the cutout open, I gained 13 RWHP over flowing through the Flowmaster.

On a WS6 exhaust, I shouldn't gain 13 RWHP with just the cutout. The WS6 exhaust flows pretty good from the factory.

Tonight is my first time to go to the track with the cutout and the 4.11 gears. I'm hoping for 12's.

Don't be too suprised to find out that after putting a couple of hundred miles on the new setup the computer will learn out the new MAF and things will go back to the way that they were.
I my opinion the MAF is the last place to look for power. Mine is still stock with the screen in.

Please post your results regardless of the outcome.. Often times people who dont see satisfactory results will tend to not post. I am thinking that you will not see any gain on your next trip but I wish ya luck!

How do you figure that the WS6 exhaust flows more? You state that you shouldnt gain 13rwhp from the cutout but you dont have a WS6 exhaust. You have a flowmaster. So 13rwhp is very likely considering you dont have the WS6 factory exhaust. Right?

I have a WS6 exhaust, with a Flowmaster muffler.

So, what I'm saying is that if someone has a Flowmaster muffler, it's hurting their times because it doesn't flow as well. (but it has a great sound)

So, either ditch the Flowmaster, or get a cutout.
