Oil Pressure

Well I did a bit of a search but didn't find much so I'll just ask straight out.

On the way to work my '01 threw an SES (had it checked..just one of the F-ing pre cat O2's again) After the nice autozone lady cleared it, I went back under way then the low oil light came on. Was already running late for work, couldn't be late, so i just had to baby the car the remaining 20 miles or so. When I got off work the next morning I immediately added replacement oil (a full quart put it mid/high-operational range) Everything's fine except for one thing. When the oil is cold it holds it's usual pressure, about 58 at idle and roughly 60ish while driving. When it's warm it holds about 52 at idle and 58 while driving. However after taking it on the highway for about 15 minutes yesterday I noticed that at idle it would bounce between 46-50 psi but would go back to holding at about 58 when I was driving. Is this normal and I have just never noticed it? Should I whip out my wallet now and start ordering stuff?

I normally wouldn't let my oil drop that low in the first place but my mind has been elsewhere of late.

Lightbulb Maybe the type oil you added had something to do w/ it.

Sounds like killer oil pressure to me - I get about 30 at hot idle occasionally dipping to 25 or so on a good hot day or after running hard, and around 45 on the freeway.

That is with 10W30 synthetic oil.

I would not worry about an occasional 'flip' of the gauge.

My .02.

Re: Oil Pressure

Perhaps it's only me over worrying about my $14k car haha (had way too many problems with my 93) I did my research and most people are getting readings from 40ish to 50-60ish PSI. And it raises fine with the RPM's. Although I thought the stock springs were supposed to relieve at 65 PSI...but at close to 4000 RPM mine hits like 75 or so? lol

Oh and I originally had 5W30 and re-added 5w30.
