Angry No Start ~ Random problem

Looking for a little advice or if anyone has had this issue:

2000 SS A4 stock, 53,XXX miles.

If I go to start the car (cold or warm) and let off the key before it has started (i.e., let off the ignition key too early before the engine started) the car will not start! Turn the key off, try to restart, hear the fuel pump come back up and no start ~ it will crank till the battery goes dead walk away from the car for a 1/2 hour, come back, just touch the key & it fires right up! (this is starting to remind me of life w/my X-wife ~ Satan's Sister). when the car runs, it runs great ~ no issues. Here's what I've done so far:
Mis-diagnosed bad BCM ~ installed new & reprogramed, VATS went bad last year ~ hard wired resistors to the key circuit. Changed plugs to the new AC iridium & gap @ 0.40. Cleaned MAF & IAC. New battery. All this made it run better & idel great, but did not resolve the start issue ~

Any ideas? Its random, i.e., sometimes I don't have this issue for a couple weeks & sometimes twice a day ~ Like marriage ~ If this car was a woman ~ I think I'd tell her to hit the highway ~
Thanx
Mark

Your 2000 SS has the LS1 engine. This is the LT1/LT4 Engine Tech forum.

I know you had the VATS serviced, but it still sounds like a VATS or alarm issue.

Kraest, Thanx for the reply. I'm not sure what "VATS serviced" means & that may be my problem. The ignition key switch was not picking up the resistor pellet, so I soldered in the correct resistors under the dash, i.e., its hardwired now. When I changed the BCM, I just followed the instructions in the service manual to program all the BS lights flashing, horn toot'in, etc. when you lock the car Was there something else I should have done?

I wonder if one of the resistors that you installed is going bad.

That does add a lot of what-ifs? to the equation...

next time it does that try holding the gas pedal to the floor and crank it a few times if it tries to start let off the pedal, it sounds like you may be flooding it out and holding the pedal all the way down will cut off the injectors

Wow.... Tough Love

I'm a bit lost on the VATS programing. I read my Service manual and when I changed the BCM, the only Security (Theft Deterent) items were the Bells & Whistles you program in. Also, from what I've looked at the wiring diagrams, I could not find a VATS module? Am I missing something or did the system change from the earlier one?
