no more 3rd to 2nd misses EVER
no more 3rd to 2nd misses
Thanks to the guys @LS1tech.com for the great idea, i thought id share it with you. This is only a copy/paste of the thread but a bad a*s idea that could benefit us all with M6's....
I saw on LS1.come that someone had figured out using LS1Edit how to make the Skip Shift light come on at certain RPM's, thus acting as a shift light. Anyone done this or is it even legit?
Cags is controlled by MPH not RPM and only for 1 set speed.
I do this on all customer's car's I tune but having the Cags light
come on at a speed they want to make the last shift before the end of the 1/4 mile.
Light goes on at speed I set it and then off at another speed.
This controls the light but the cags relay is not functioning.
But I take it one step further! I enable the skip shift so that at 55 mph it locks out 2nd! This way you can't go into second over 55mph. No 3-2nd miss shifts on my car! I figured this out a week after I got edit. I have had great luck and so have the cars I have set it up on. It’s kind of a nice safety.
now your skipshift light would always be on past 50. You need to set your engine load enable to 90 and disable at 101 (or anything above 100) that way it only happens at WOT

That is a great idea!
Another way to avoid the mis-shift is arm placement. When going to fourth, I cpu my hand around the back of the shifter with my fingers pointed towards the passenger door, and hold my elbow high. The natural movement is away from the body. Worst case scenerio you would grab sixth instead of fourth. You might lose the race, but you will be ready to go again. I have never caught sixth going for fourth, but have caught fifft going for third two or three times in the past decade. For that shift I cup my palm behind the shifter, pull the elbow in tight and push up an away.

No really, I'm going try your 3 to 4 technique.
The CAGS isn't just MPH activated. It is a combination of MPH, RPMS, engine temp, and acceleration/throttle. But with that said, it still sounds like your idea will work, and a clever one it is
So let me get this straight. Change the range of activation of the CAGS from 70 MPH until 110 MPH with > 90% engine load. That disables the CAGS annoying 1-4 shift feature and gives protection against accidently hitting 2nd at 100 MPH. Ingenious! Is this tricky to do. I'm gonna get some custom tuning done in the very near future. Is this something that is easily programmed in?
For those of us without LS1 edit, or easy access to custom tuning ... Matt Harlan is working on a "Drag Cags" which will use the skip shift solenoid to lock out 2nd gear and eliminate the dreaded 3-2 shift.
